Nearby, the Yorkshire Dales offer a wonderful variety of hill and river landscapes. Seaside resorts, fishing villages and rugged coastlines can be found at Scarborough, Bridlington, Robin Hood’s Bay, Ravenscar and Staithes. Historic cities such as York and spectacular ruins such a Rievaulx Abbey are within easy reach. Situated close to Sutton Bank on the A170, the top of the bank affords panoramic views of the plain of York Stretching between the Pennines and the Hambleton Hills. There is a large car Park and a comprehensive visitor information centre. The Historic market town of Thirsk lies 3.5 miles away from the resort. In the town there is a picturesque country racecourse with excellent facilities. Thirsk is also well known as the home of James Herriot (Alf Wight, Obe) the world’s most famous vet.
