Description
Relax in a cozy, bright 1-bedroom Guest House with great views on an organic Skagit farm. We're 1.5 miles to Edison, off Chuckanut Drive, close to eateries and galleries. Explore Edison, hike, bike, bird or relax on the deck and enjoy the scenery. It's 30 minutes to Bellingham, 20 minutes to Mount Vernon. Perfect for foodies, outdoor enthusiasts, creatives, writers, farm lovers, birders. Enjoy Edison and surroundings for a short or long stay while resting in a lovely place! Please read all info. The space The living space in the guest house is cozy, comfortable and private and filled with south-facing natural light with warm radiant heat in all rooms in winter and cool breezes in summer. It is perfect for a long or short-term stay! Note that the guest house does not have a dishwasher or washer/dryer (there is a clothes drying rack for hand washables). If you come for a longer stay (2 weeks or more), we can launder your sheets and towels in our home. There is not a television in the guest house, but the wifi is good and you can stream movies if you bring your own laptop/service. The small, elevated semi-covered deck has Adirondack chairs for relaxing outdoors with a morning cup of coffee or enjoying a late afternoon glass of wine. It is a great place to bird watch; with herons, hawks, eagles and swans flying overhead or perching on fence posts right in front of you! There are binoculars in the guest house. The views, out every window and on the deck, are lovely! You cannot see our home from inside or from the deck so you will have a lot of privacy. The guest house has an eclectic mixture of new and vintage furnishings, including Linda's grandmother's bedroom set. There is a newer (2021) sofa bed in the common space that converts into a queen size sleeping space if needed. The kitchen is fully stocked with wine glasses, dishes, condiments, coffee (and 3 ways to make it!) and any type of cook or bake-ware you might need for a longer stay or if you want to buy locally produced products and prepare them at home. There is a stove/oven, a full refrigerator/freezer and a microwave. The bedding and pillows are super comfortable and there is a large closet in the bedroom. As of the end of 2023, we are now retired farmers! For 10 years we had a commercial certified organic farm and grew produce here for individuals, nearby restaurants in Bow and Edison including Terramar, Chuckanut Manor, Tweets, Farm to Market Bakery; and restaurants in Bellingham, San Juans and the Seattle area. We now lease the land we grew on to other farmers for their wholesale organic farm business. During certain times of year, there is produce farming going on but it is not our business and guests need to please refrain from walking in certain areas. We no longer have a retail farm stand at our site but there are lots of nearby farm stands that we can recommend. Foodies love it here as we are very close to popular farm-to-table restaurants, bakeries and other farms. We are about one mile to our neighbors/farm friends at Bow Hill Blueberries and Samish Bay Cheese. You can see Samish Bay Cheese and their cows from the guest house as our land borders theirs. You can walk or drive just .7 mile (from the farm and along Chuckanut Drive) to Farm to Market Bakery and Cob and Cork Restaurant. We are just 1.5 miles to the wonderful community of Edison where there are eateries, galleries and shops. Birders love our place as we are in the center of wintering bird populations such as swans and snow geese! There are often unique raptors perching and hunting on our land. The Skagit tulip and daffodil fields are a beautiful 20 minute drive south or a nice bike ride away making it a lovely space to stay during the annual Skagit Tulip Festival in April. It is quieter here, and away from the crowds, so it is a nice place to rest after a day in the flowers. Our guest house is an elevated, small living space adjacent to our home that is set up and designed for 2 adults. We have a 2-person maximum in our guest house. Beyond 2 people, age 12 and older, requires an exception and an additional fee per person per night. Unfortunately, our guest house is not suitable for children old enough to crawl, up to age 12. There are 6 entry steps, no safety gate, cleaning products under sinks, sharp furniture corners and small objects that are choking hazards. There is no crib or furnishings to accommodate children at our guest house. As mentioned, there are farm businesses here and insurance is very restrictive. We cannot assume the risk for children in our guest house or on our grounds. We are also adjacent to much larger conventional farms on a dead-end road. Summer through fall there is huge equipment driven past our place and the road and farm areas can be a danger to children. It is dusty and the adjacent farms can use loud generators through the night. Guest access The guest house is attached to our red barn. It looks out over beautiful farm fields, to our 20 acres and adjacent farms. From our farm you can also look out to the San Juan Islands, Lummi Island, Blanchard Mountain and the rest of the Chuckanuts. Guests can observe nature in the outdoor space near the guest house. There is room to store bikes outdoors (not in the Guest House). Because we lease our farm fields and outbuildings to others, there may be workers or deliveries/pickups around the parking area on occasion. If guests are interested in organic farming, we are happy to chat or possibly give a tour but we kindly request that you do not walk around the farm on your own. The working portion of our farm, and the backyard behind our house, are not part of the Airbnb rental. Please also note that we have private neighbors and their pets living on this road and there are large commercial farms on the road. Please give the right of way to working farmers and neighbors. If you are interested in walking on the road, please check in with us. There is at least one neighboring pet that might startle you and we would like to advise so you aren't surprised! We live in the main house and are enthusiastic to share local resources with guests, advise on places to visit and about local farming. At the same time, we will give you lots of privacy. Our house is nearby but we designed the guest house to feel private. Because this is a working farm, there may be folks moving around the farm doing chores and in peak season our site can be very busy. Spring through fall, at any given time there may be activity on our land related to farming (or maintaining our 20 acres), including the use of machinery, irrigation, weeding, harvesting and deliveries/pickups. We wish to make guests aware, who are booking in spring/summer/fall that we are on a dead end road with large conventional (non-organic) potato farms around us. Skagit is known for potatoes! Potatoes are on a 4-year rotation and other crops are grown during off years. There is potential that there will be times when large farm equipment will be driven on our road, there may be dust, chemicals being applied to adjacent fields (not ours) and there could be loud generators going 24 hours/day that run irrigation. The guest house is more sheltered from this activity than our home and some guests have told us they hardly noticed anything and/or loved observing the farming! However, we want you to know in advance so there are no surprises. Other things to note If you notice our calendar is blocked or are interested in a longer stay of 1 week or more, please send us an inquiry. In our retirement, we do not rent the guest house as often as we once did and our family uses it. We have dates blocked due to personal commitments or longer stays. Sometimes we can alter our calendar availability and offer longer stays. We love animals, but we do not allow pets. We have immediate family members with severe allergies that also use our guest house. For food safety reasons, animals are not allowed as they could pose a liability to our farm lessees. Our guest house is a small living space adjacent to our home that is set up and designed for 2 adults. We have a 2-person maximum in our Guest House. Beyond 2 people, age 12 and older, requires an exception and an additional fee per person per night. As described elsewhere in this listing, the farm and nearby activities can be noisy or dusty at times. This is farm life in Skagit County! Sometimes coyotes are calling and raptors are flying, sometimes farming is happening. Come experience it! In general, winter is a quieter season though during certain winter months the region is popular with hunters and shooting can be heard. We can hear and see trains from our property...some folks love this! We are further away from the train tracks than many other nearby places, so sleep should not be disturbed. Most guests remark to us that "it's so quiet here!" But...sometimes it's not! Reminder to parents: We are repeating this to be certain it is seen. We want families to find the best and safest stay for you and your children. Our guest house is not suitable for children old enough to crawl, up to age 12. Airbnb has started showing our listing to families, without our permission. We have not designed or stocked our place for children and it can be dangerous. We love kids, we have grown kids and we were educators of youth all our lives. However...We are in a flood plain so our guest house is elevated by requirement. There are 6 entry steps, no safety gate, cleaning products under sinks, sharp furniture corners and small objects that are choking hazards. There is no crib or furnishings to accommodate children at our guest house. There are farm businesses and our insurance is very restrictive. We cannot assume the risk for children in our Guest House.
