Other things to note Fortuna House Alpujarra The Casa Fortuna Rural accommodation is located in a typical Alpujarran house that dates back to the 18th century in the municipality of Fondales, a nucleus belonging to the ancient Tahá de Ferreira, which was the jurisdictional and administrative division into regions of the Muslim period of this area, currently comprising the municipalities of Tahá (Capilerilla, Pitres, Atalbéitar, Mecina, Mecinilla, Ferreirola and Fondales), Pórtugos, Busquistar and the missing Aylacar. The municipality of Fondales was a historical enclave of great importance in the Alpujarra as it was the largest, its lands reaching as far as Órgiva and Cádiar. Having the main access to the upper Alpujarra on the road from Órgiva to Trevélez, and the scene of great battles in the Alpujarras rebellion. ...Why is it called Casa Fortuna...?? They say in the town that in the 19th century this house was inhabited by a certain Manuel, a young neighbor who one day, while carrying out the typical tasks of caring for the livestock in the vicinity of the Roman bridge that crosses the Trevélez River and while playing in the irrigation ditch that carries the water to the mill, the young man fell down the canyon of about 4 meters through which the water falls right to the stones of the mill, having the great fortune to emerge unharmed without being injured by the enormous stones that rotated grinding the wheat. The people, surprised, could not believe what had happened... That same night, Manuel woke up startled after a revealing dream, in the tinao, next to the well, he would find a clay pot full of gold coins. He did not hesitate for a moment and lit the lamp with the last embers of the fireplace and ran out to dig where the dream had indicated. Indeed, just as he dreamed, a large centerboard full of coins appeared before him. From then on Manuel would be known in the town as Manuel Fortuna and this would be his home.
