Description
Originally designed to be a ski chalet in the 1970s, this extraterrestrial Futuro home has since landed on Marlborough Point, a peninsula bordered by the Potomac River, Accokeek Creek and the Crow's Nest Nature Preserve. This unit resides on the owner's property, but still offers a secluded feel being buried in the woods. Whether you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of northern Virginia or just want to experience nature in a not so normal way, this is sure to check the box. The space Looks can be deceiving as this 500-ish square foot space may seem small on the outside but once you enter through the pull-down door, you quickly realize it has big personality. A large living room/kitchen area is front and center with the bedroom off to the right and the bathroom to the left. There is a picnic table outside as well as a fire pit with a stack of wood you are able to use. Please refrain from picking up things to burn in the surrounding area. Guest access While here, you will have access to "The Duckblind", a waterside pavilion and dock on the edge of the property. Follow the trail markers on a 5 minute walk down to the Accokeek Creek where you can sit by the water, hop in a kayak, lay in the hammock and listen to the frogs chirp or simply watch the sunset. You can also access the Duckblind by vehicle at the address 480 and driving all the way to the end. Please do not enter any of the other sheds or buildings located on the property. Other things to note - DISC GOLF - The Kreekside UFO also sits on a 18 hole disc golf course that shares the same name, Kreekside. During your stay you are more than welcome to play the course and you can use any of the discs available if you did not bring your own. Given this fact, you may come across others that have come down to enjoy a few hours throwing some plastic and the path from hole to hole does indeed lead right by the UFO. During your commute to The Duckblind, please use caution in case players are on the course. They will be looking out for you in turn. There are numerous other courses in the area, many of which are highly ranked, including Curtis Memorial Park, Loriella Park, Pratt Park and Cannon Ridge. - BEACH - Aquia Landing is a 32-acre park that is a popular fishing and swimming spot located on a peninsula that juts into the mouth of Aquia Creek. The park’s entrance road is flanked by a large marsh that attracts a variety of songbirds, as well as marsh birds, including rails & herons. The border of this marsh can also have the highest concentration of damselflies on the Coastal Phase of the Fredericksburg Loop Trail. Part of the park is wooded and consequently supplies attractive habitat to many migrant and breeding songbirds. Visitors should also watch for the waterfowl, terns and gulls that can be seen flying over the creek channel. - CROWS NEST - Located a few miles back out towards town is the main entrance for Crow's Nest. Crow's Nest is, simply, a beautiful place and considered highly significant from numerous standpoints. Crow's Nest Natural Area Preserve supports 3,056 acres of mature hardwood forest including two forest types that are recognized as globally rare by DCR's Natural Heritage Program. Crow’s Nest supports habitat for about 60 species of neotropical migratory songbirds, nearly 60 percent of which are experiencing population declines, including ten species that are high global priority species of Partners In Flight. There are also nesting bald eagles and great blue herons. These lands and waters have played important roles in the Native American, Colonial and Civil War histories of Virginia. - CROWS NEST RESEARCH CENTER - The Crow’s Nest Research Center is literally located NEXT DOOR to Kreekside and is a not-for-profit organization based on 132 acres of woodlands, ravines, meadows, and wetlands. The CNRC is dedicated to conservation, wetlands research, and environmental education for the public benefit. Access is allowed by request. Three miles of mowed trails wind through at least eight different natural habitats teeming with native flora and fauna at the CNRC. With the exception of CNRC-supported researchers, visitors are encouraged to stay on the trails, please.
