Sogo Residence is a historic brick building that has served Los Angeles travelers for over 100 years. Rooms are SRO dormitory-style: rooms are locked and private but bathroom and kitchens are shared. While it's not fancy, if you are looking for a basic simple, inexpensive place to stay in an excellent location, and are comfortable living in an older historic building, we offer an excellent value. We are proud that many Airbnb guests have become long-term tenants. There are 44 units total; due to the number of tenants and guests we take a hands-off approach and give guests their space, but our manager is available on the Airbnb messaging platform and via email. We welcome open-minded, independent and responsible Airbnb guests who can take care of themselves. LENGTH OF STAY - Our furnished private dorm rooms are available for minimum four days, longer term stays are encouraged. We generally accept reservations of 30 days maximum length. If you wish to reserve for a longer period you may discuss that via email with the property manager after you check in for your initial stay. ROOM DESCRIPTION: All rooms are private they are for one individual, have locks on doors, and come with a sink. Furnished rooms come with bed, desk, chair, and mini-fridge. Unfurnished rooms are completely empty; you must bring your own bed and furniture. These are meant for long-term stays. Kitchen, toilet, shower rooms are shared, and cleaned every day. ON ARRIVAL: Please keep in mind that this is Self-check-In meaning you check yourself in and get the keys from a lockbox. CHECKING IN: Check-in is at 3 pm & Check-out is at 11 am. We do offer early check-in & late check-out as well as luggage storage for an hourly fee. Please make sure to ask first for availability on any service before your initial check in 3pm or your checkout at 11am. SECURITY DEPOSIT: Because most of our tenants are long-term guests, our security deposit is $450 and it does not change based on length of stay. The deposit is held by Airbnb through your credit card and they will return it to you after your stay. We have had a couple hundred individual reservations with our building and have only had to make deductions for damages a couple of times. If you are a responsible guest, you should have no worries. ADDITIONAL GUESTS: Additional guests are not allowed without prior notification and prior permission given by the host. Unless agreed to otherwise, any additional guests who stay past 10 pm will be charged an additional $10 per night. If an additional guest is brought without prior permission and paid for in advance, you may lose your security deposit or have your reservation cancelled. Thank you in advance for not bringing overnight guests without prior permission. Guest access Shared bathrooms are cleaned daily, as is the shared kitchen. Laundry facilities are on-site and coin-operated ($1.75/load–bring quarters for use). Snacks are available in the vending machine. Guests that book furnished rooms will be given a hotel-sized starter set of shampoo and soap, if you are staying for more than a few days, you should bring your own shampoo and soap, and we also sell shampoo and soap for a small cost in our vending machines. Other things to note We do not have A/C so summers can get hot, but we provide fans in furnished rooms. If you are sensitive to these issues please consider them before booking. If you are not comfortable or familiar living in an urban downtown Los Angeles environment, please do your research beforehand. Please research and read the reviews, and don't just book because we are inexpensive. This is a unique property that suits independent, responsible, open-minded guests. The bed is a queen sized bed.
