Like a Treehouse!
If you're coming to Illinois for any medical procedure that's no longer available in your home state, reach out to us about discounts. You'll feel like you're in a tree house in our 850 sq ft coach house, above our workshop/garage, behind our home in historic Forest Park, right next to Oak Park. Just 8 miles west of Downtown Chicago, convenient to I-290 and the Blue Line train. The space The Details- Second floor space, with 14 exterior steps up to your private entrance. The Coach House is the "back building", behind our house. Completely private inside- no shared interior areas. Free adjacent parking space. Large, dog friendly fenced yard with patio areas, which are shared with our family, but generally available to guests. Well behaved dogs (no cats, please) are welcome guests, with prior notice. Doggos love our big fenced backyard! A one time, $25 extra cleaning fee applies. (We do like cats, but can't accommodate kitty guests- we have a frequently returning guest, and cleaning staff, who are very allergic.) We're literally a "mom and pop", one-off, old school Airbnb. No corporate office, no office hours, no long separate agreement. This one space is our only Airbnb property. We're easygoing - we're there if you need us, but we respect your privacy if you don't. We live in the "big house" on the lot, steps away. 15 minute walk to the Blue Line train, which will bring you to downtown Chicago in 30 minutes. 5 minute drive to I-290. Full bath. The minimal kitchenette area is not set up for full cooking, but great for simple breakfasts or reheating restaurant leftovers, with an under counter fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, bar sink, utensils, plates, glasses- but no stove. The living room has 2 foldout sofa beds, and the one bedroom has a king bed. Complimentary coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snacks. (As is standard in most American Airbnbs, breakfast is not provided.) Visitor policy- The Coach House is a separate building, but it does share the backyard with the house, so we do regard it as an extension of our home. Visitors are on a case by case basis, so just talk to us. If it's Thanksgiving weekend, and you want to invite a few family members over for a quiet evening away from the crush, they are very welcome. If you're in for Lollapollooza weekend, and you want to bring in six people you just met at the festival, after the shows... Probably not ;) Let's just talk! Need a high chair? An extra large dog kennel? Some beach towels? We can probably supply those things. Just let us know! No smoking, vaping, or incense inside the building. A $250 cleaning fee may be charged, if there's any evidence of smoking. No parties or loud gatherings. No music that can be heard beyond the property lines. We do standard "American style" bedding- a fitted sheet, a cotton top sheet, and layered blankets on top of that. The king bed in the bedroom will be made up when you arrive, but the two foldout sofa beds in the living room will not. Bed linens are in the seat by the window. No third party reservations, please. Per Airbnb regulations, the person making the reservation must be one of the guests, for the entire stay. If something breaks or gets spilled, just let us know. Accidents happen, and we'll work out how to make it good. Feel free to grab cleaning supplies from the broom closet for minor spills. The living room TV is set up with Hulu, Disney Plus, Netflix, YouTube, and other services, as well as an antenna for local broadcasts. No need to bring a list of your passwords. Grab the remote and watch everything as a guest, or if you like, you can login with your own passwords to access your own preferences. Guest access There are several patio spaces in the backyard, that guests can generally access (if our family doesn't have a previously planned gathering), plus a "mini deck" of your own, at the top of the stairs, perfect for a morning cup of coffee among the trees! Other things to note The coach house is above Geoff's workshop, so you may occasionally smell sawdust and hear tools in use (at reasonable hours.) Amy and our daughter are horse people, so the coach house has a warm, western feel in its decor. (There are no actual horses on the property ;) We may be able to lend you a bicycle, or even a kayak! This is a smoke and vape-free space (indoors). Check out is simple- We just ask that you toss used towels into the bathtub, put all trash/recycling in the inside receptacles (no need to take the garbage out, but extra bags are in the broom closet), and wash any dishes you used. No need to strip the beds. We'll take it from there! And Chicago Magazine voted us one of the best suburban downtowns! (March, 2019- "Winner: Forest Park! It has the ideal mix of independent shops, buzzy restaurants, and small-town nostalgia — and you can get there on the L.")
