Sorgente Cornish Holiday Cottage
Sorgente Cornish Holiday Cottage
Sorgente Cornish Holiday Cottage. Allergy free.
Description
A traditional Cornish cottage completely refurbished for our first season, with further improvements carried out in 2016. Sorgente (sleeps 4 + 1 infant) combines the beauty of period features with state-of-the-art amenities such as a heat recovery system (benefiting allergy/asthma suffers). The gorgeous luxury bathroom is a favourite with our guests, with large bath, rain shower and bidet. Our house keeper has exceptional attention to detail. Maintenance and decor is constantly under review. The space The name Sorgente, an Italian word meaning 'water source', is quite befitting for this traditional character cottage — not only is it within a short stroll of the scenic river and quayside in Penryn, but it can also mean 'source of energy': the very substance of a relaxing and re-energising holiday. Sorgente is a traditional Cornish cottage set snugly in a row of granite stone terraced cottages that ooze old-world charm in the ancient town of Penryn. Once a thriving port and centre for commerce, Penryn is reputed to be one of Cornwall's oldest and best-preserved historic towns. The spacious open-plan living room is equipped with a wood-burning stove (alongside full central heating) and leads to the fully equipped kitchen, with patio doors opening onto a sunny enclosed garden with outdoor furniture. Upstairs, a double and twin bedroom provide a high degree of comfort with quality mattresses and fine bed linens. The luxurious, well-lit bathroom sits between the two bedrooms and features a rain shower above the large bath, an additional hand-held shower, a bidet, contemporary fittings and Italian porcelain tiles. You will have sole use of the property — no sharing of any amenities with other guests. The garden is small but becomes a lovely sun trap in summer. We welcome babies and young children, with a baby bath (to use inside the large one), safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, a highchair and a fire guard with safety gate. We ask that guests bring their own cot, bedding and changing mat for infants, plus mattress protection where needed. We are proud to offer accommodation well suited to asthma and allergy sufferers, and therefore have a strict non-smoking/vaping, no-pets policy. Friday is our preferred day for check-in and check-out. Depending on circumstances, check-in may also be available on Saturday, Sunday or Monday, as long as check-out falls on a Friday. Guests booking 7 or 14 nights with a Friday check-in receive a full welcome pack, with our compliments: wine, a Cornish cream tea (scones, jam and clotted cream), a local newspaper, fresh flowers, tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk. The wood burner uses kiln-dried logs only — no other fuel may be used, or damage will occur. Logs are available to purchase from us, as the correct size and quality are not always readily available locally. You only pay for opened bags. A car is highly recommended, though there are bus services and a train station nearby. The area can be hilly, but many guests do cycle. Falmouth is within easy reach. On-street parking is free and usually available in front of the house, though it can occasionally be taken. Additional parking is close by — see our reviews for more on this. We are available by phone, text or email throughout your stay for any queries or help with the cottage amenities. Full instructions for all appliances, along with other useful information, are available at the cottage. We are sure you will enjoy staying in our home away from home as much as we do! Do leave us a note in the guest book, visit our blog, FB page or webpage, or write a review on your preferred platform. Be sure to check for special offers and browse our 100% positive guestbook entries at our website. Guest access You will have sole occupancy of this property and garden. Please ensure when booking you include all guests. In 2016 the garden was enlarged slightly with a BBQ area built into the Cornish Hedge (dry stone wall). Suitable for portable/disposable BBQ trays. Note that the bath is high-sided and the shower is not walk-in, no hand rails, no curtains or panels are installed. Elderly or infirm guests should consider this before booking. Other things to note In January 2016 we redesigned the livingroom layout by reversing the stairs to allow a more comfortable angle of ascent. Some guests may have found the original open-tread stairs to the bedrooms and bathroom a little steep and challenging. We do not have access for wheelchairs, the bath is high-sided and do not have a walk-in shower. There isn’t a shower curtain but the floor is sealed and will not cause problems with a bit of splashing from the rain shower head. Due to providing accommodation suitable for asthma and allergy sufferers we cannot accept any pets, sadly even guide dogs. There are three steps into the property from the road. There is no pavement between the road and the cottage. If a linen and towel change is required - times maybe pre-arranged directly with us in advance. Charges may apply.
