Description
A traditional Cornish cottage completely refurbished for our first season, with further improvements carried out in 2016. Sorgente (sleeps 4 + 1 infant) combines the beauty of period features with state-of-the-art amenities such as a heat recovery system (benefiting allergy/asthma suffers). The gorgeous luxury bathroom is a favourite with our guests, with large bath, rain shower and bidet. Our house keeper has exceptional attention to detail. Maintenance and decor is constantly under review. The space *COVID-19 - WE ARE ACCEPTING BOOKINGS AGAIN. However, our check-in/out times have changed to allow more time to clean between lets. It is important that we know the correct number of guests that will be staying. We also now ask that on check-out, guests strip bedding and place in a sealed sack provided, along with all towels and items that need washing. For long stays this is also done every 14 days. Helping all of us stay safe! Friday is our prefered day for check-in and check-out. Depending on circumstances check-in may be on Saturday, Sunday and Monday as long as check-out falls on Friday. Full welcome pack includes: Wine, Cornish Cream Tea (scones, jam, clotted cream), local newspaper, fresh flowers, tea, coffee, sugar, fresh milk - with our compliments all 7 or 14 night bookings with check-in on Fridays. The spacious open plan living room is equipped with a wood-burning stove (although there is full central heating too) and leads to the fully equipped kitchen with patio doors opening to a sunny enclosed garden and furniture. Upstairs there are a double and twin bedroom providing a high degree of comfort with quality mattresses and bed linens. The luxurious, well lit, bathroom is situated between the two bedrooms. It includes a rain shower above the large bath with an additional hand-held shower, a bidet, contemporary fittings and Italian porcelain tiles. We welcome babies and young children too, with a baby bath to use inside the large one. There are safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs, a highchair and a fire guard with safety gate. We ask that guests bring their own cots, bedding and changing mat for infants, plus protection against bed-wetting for the beds where necessary. We are proud that we are able to offer accommodation more suited to asthma and allergy sufferers and therefore have a strict non-smoking, no pets policy. The name Sorgente, an Italian word meaning 'water source', is quite befitting for this traditional character cottage because not only is it within a short stroll of the scenic river and quayside in Penryn, but also because it can mean 'source of energy' – the very substance of a relaxing and re-energising holiday. Sorgente is a traditional Cornish cottage set snugly in a row of granite stone terraced cottages that ooze old world charm in the ancient town of Penryn. Once a thriving port and a center for commerce, Penryn is reputed to be one of Cornwall's oldest and best surviving historic towns. We are sure that you will enjoy staying in our home away from home as much as we do, please leave us comments in the guest book during your stay, on our online Blog, FB page, website or write a review on your preferred network or website. Also be sure to check for any special offers, and view the 100% positive guestbook entries on our website! You will have sole access to this property, there is no sharing of any amenities with other people. The garden is small but becomes a sun trap in summer. Due to Covid you may not invite anyone else into the property to visit or stay. Only those mentioned in the booking may enter the property to a maximum of 4 adults (or 2 adults and 2 children plus an infant under 2). We are available to you by phone, text or email during your stay for any queries or help with any of the cottage amenities, and there are full instructions to all appliances plus other information available at the cottage. A car is highly recommended. There are bus services and a train station. It can be hilly in the area but many people do cycle, Falmouth is within easy reach. The wood burner uses only kiln-dried logs, no other fuel may be used or damage will occur. Logs are available for purchase from us, as the correct size and quality are not always readily available locally. Pay only for opened bags. Parking is free however it is not private. Usually on-road in front of the house is available but sometimes this may be taken. More parking can be found close by. See our reviews on this. Guest access You will have sole occupancy of this property and garden. However ONLY those mentioned in the booking may enter, this is a restriction added due to COVID-19. In 2016 the garden was enlarged slightly with a BBQ area built into the Cornish Hedge (dry stone wall). Suitable for portable/disposable BBQ trays. Note that the bath is high-sided and the shower is not walk-in, no hand rails, no curtains or panels are installed. Elderly or infirm guests should consider this before booking. Other things to note In January 2016 we redesigned the livingroom layout by reversing the stairs to allow a more comfortable angle of ascent. Some guests may have found the original open-tread stairs to the bedrooms and bathroom a little steep and challenging. We do not have access for wheelchairs, the bath is high-sided and do not have a walk-in shower. There isn’t a shower curtain but the floor is sealed and will not cause problems with splashing from the rain shower head. Due to providing accommodation suitable for asthma and allergy sufferers we cannot accept any pets, sadly even guide dogs. There are three steps into the property from the road. There is no pavement between the road and the cottage. There is free on-road parking in front of the cottage, this is public so we cannot guarantee that the space will always be free, however in general there is not a problem parking.
