Happy on the Hill, Jake's Cabin, near Bruton

Hello everyone! We’re Will & Lily, and we’re thrilled to have recently taken over from the wonderful Susan and Neil at Happy on the Hill. For those who’ve stayed before, rest assured - everything you love about Jake's Cabin remains the same: the layout, the comfort, and the calm, cosy atmosphere Susan and Neil created so beautifully. The space Jake’s Cabin is tucked away in one of the most magical secluded locations in Somerset. Waking to birdsong and with views of undulating hillside and meadows, it provides closeness to nature that melts away the strains of busy lives. Built from local cedar and larch and using only eco friendly and re-cycled materials, this beautifully crafted retreat can be found in a sunny clearing, and protected from the elements by the old oak and hazelnut trees that cast dappled light over its living roof. Based on our much-loved Gabriel’s Wagon, Jake’s Cabin has more space and an internal door leading to the bathroom that hosts a warm yellow roll top bath with an external door for a bath with a view; It has a luxuriously comfy day-bed with a v sprung mattress and silky soft bamboo bed linen; floor to ceiling windows running along its length and sky lights, so that whether from the bath, bed or from the soft sinking cushions of the old Ercol sofa, you can enjoy the views, catch the sunlight and watch the stars.. Jake’s Cabin has running hot and cold water and electricity and is properly equipped with kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery, a baby belling hob and oven, Belfast sink and fridge. The wood-burning stove keeps the cabin in constant warmth, thanks also to its high spec draft proof insulation. Down the wooden steps is a fire pit and fire wok if you wish to cook outside and enjoy the spectacular lookout spot by day and night. Additionally Jake's Cabin offers: - Basic breakfast ingredients: tea, ground coffee, milk, homemade muesli and oats - Store cupboard ingredients: oil , vinegar, salt and pepper, herbs etc - Travel cot available for a babe in arms - Woodburner with logs supplied - Covered verandah with place for muddy wellies & hooks for coats - Bruton town 3 miles away with restaurants, cafes and well stocked shops including The Organic Shop organic co-operative - Nearby off road parking Guest access The verandah offers a covered area to sit on the beautiful French wrought iron bench for outdoor breakfasts and suppers or to just enjoy the view and its own private garden. Here you can use the fire-pit and fire wok for outdoor cooking. Even in rain there is something to enjoy watching as the rainwater runs off the woodland roof and down a chain into a water bowl creating a beautiful natural water feature. Other things to note Do bring waterproofs and wellies for wet weather, boots for walking and a torch for arrival on dark nights. We provide all basics such as loo paper, washing up liquid, tea towels, bin bags etc; as well as some store cupboard essentials, such as tea, coffee, salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil and vinegar.
