Hello everyone! We’re Will & Lily, and we’re thrilled to have recently taken over from the wonderful Susan and Neil at Happy on the Hill. For those who’ve stayed before, rest assured - everything you love about Gabriel’s Wagon remains the same: the layout, the comfort, and the calm, cosy atmosphere Susan and Neil created so beautifully. Our aim is to carry that same spirit forward so your stay feels every bit as special as before. Any questions let us know. We look forward to hosting you! The space There is a big comfy bed and a beautifully crafted kitchen area with baby belling hob and oven, Belfast sink and little fridge. A sweet wood burning stove that lights like a dream keeps the wagon in constant warmth when needed, scenting the outside air with its gentle wood-smoke. Sink into the deep feather cushions of the old Ercol sofa and open the French windows to enjoy the view down to the little village church in the valley below. Undercover of the translucent arched roof, walk out onto the red cedar and larch decking. At one end an old pine door leads to the bathroom that invites you to relax! Enjoy the treat of a cast iron roll-top bath filled with hot running water and privacy to open the door wide if you fancy, to see the view as you let go of all life’s demands. Down the wooden steps is a fire pit and fire wok if you wish to cook outside and enjoy the spectacular lookout spot by day and night. Additionally Gabriel's Wagon offers: - Basic breakfast ingredients: tea, ground coffee, milk, homemade muesli and oats - Store cupboard ingredients: oil , vinegar, salt and pepper etc - Access to online shop to buy further delicious hampers of home-made and local goodies - Bamboo bed linen and luxurious Vispring mattress - Travel cot available for a babe in arms - Woodburner with logs supplied - Covered verandah with place for muddy wellies & hooks for coats - Bruton town 3 miles away with restaurants, cafes and well stocked shops including The Organic Shop – organic co-operative - A special welcome for your dog with our own Pet Welcome Pack - Nearby off road parking Guest access Tucked high up on Creech Hill, with one of the best views in Somerset, Happy on the Hill offers a delightful escape from normal life. Guests are able to access this magical place nestled under ancient woodland that protects it from wild weather and brings you close to nature. Surrounded by birdsong and a bird’s eye view over the hillside, you can watch buzzards circling in the valley below and get to know our resident owls that roost in the oak trees. This is as inviting in the depths of winter, as the summer: a suntrap when the sun shines, a cosy look out when the rain and snow falls and the best place ever to watch the spectacular sunsets that fall behind Glastonbury Tor on the horizon. You need go no further if beauty, peace and relaxation are what you are after. But the cultural and gastronomic delights of Bruton with Hauser & Wirth and at the Chapel are an easy walk away along the beautiful old drovers lanes, which are also a joy to explore. Other things to note Do bring waterproofs and wellies for wet weather, boots for walking, and a torch for arrival on dark nights. We provide all basics such as loo paper, tissues, washing-up liquid, kitchen roll, tea towels, bin bags etc., as well as some store cupboard essentials, such as tea, coffee, salt, pepper, sugar, olive oil and vinegar.
