Unique hiking areas for those who enjoy hiking in the mountains The space Welcome to Salhus and Vikavegen accommodation! The place is located 19 kilometers and about 15 minutes by car from Bergen city center and right next to the fjord. Here you will have your own small private bedroom with your own small private bathroom/toilet and a workspace. The entrance to the room is on the left side of the house. The room has a private entrance directly into the room. Which makes it private and especially easy for those bringing a pet. Access is via an external staircase on the left front side of the house and around the corner. There is free Wi-Fi. There is free parking if you come by car. We park our cars ourselves in the driveway, but if you let us know in advance, we can make room for your car there as well if your car is not too big. About 50 meters to the bus stop if you come by bus. Sleeping space for 2 people if you can share a 120-wide and 198-long bed. The bed is placed in a recess, so it is not very suitable for very tall people. The room is not that big, so there will not be much space, but under the bed there is also a folding mattress that you can use as extra sleeping space. If two people don't want to share a bed, or if two people have a child with them who can sleep on a floor mattress. Extra bedding can be found in the closet. (You will not be charged extra for using the mattress and extra bedclothes or for extra children sleeping on the floor) THE BATHROOM In the bathroom you'll find shampoo, conditioner and shower soap. Extra towels and hairdryers can be found under the sink. There is also some "crisis equipment" available in the cabinet there if, for example, you have lost your luggage or forgotten something. THE LAUNDRY ROOM Guests have access to the laundry room located just inside the bedroom. The rental area does not have a kitchen, but there is still the possibility for simple cooking in the laundry room. There you will find a microwave, mini fridge, hot plate, coffee maker, and kettle. There are also cooking utensils and glasses, silverware, cups and plates, and you'll find dishwashing supplies there. In the tall cabinet, you will find other kitchen utensils and accessories. You can unclog the sink by turning the handle inside the cabinet under the sink. RECYCLING: In Bergen, we sort our waste. Paper, plastic, glass, returnable bottles, metal, food and ordinary residual waste are sorted and recycled or destroyed. You can sort the recyclables directly in the bins below the house if you prefer. The containers are marked. Blue is for paper, green is for garbage, brown is for food waste. The one black is Metal and Glass. Note: Plast has plastic bags, not plastic buckets. FOOD WASTE: In the laundry room you will find a paper bag for food waste. Only clean food should be placed in the paper bag. DO NOT: Do not throw garbage, glass, metal or plastic in the food waste. CANS AND BOTTLES: In Norway, we have a deposit on many types of bottles and cans. Look for the deposit mark. Bottles and cans with the deposit mark are to be placed in a separate recycling bag if you don't return them yourself. GLASS AND METAL: Glass and metal packaging are to be placed in the recycling bag under the sink. PAPER and PLASTIC: In the laundry room you will find a paper bag for paper. Plastic packaging is to be rinsed and placed in the bin under the sink. TRASH: All other trash is disposed of in the trash cans. You'll find mop buckets in the bathroom, laundry room and bedroom. LAUNDRY: In the laundry room, a washer and dryer are available for those who need to wash clothes during their trip. You will find detergent and fabric softener in the cabinet above the sink if you have forgotten to bring detergent. You will also find other cleaning supplies such as kitchen towels, dishcloths, and dishwashing detergent in the same cabinet. If you use the dryer, it is important that the filter and water tank are emptied between EACH dry. A clogged filter results in poorer drying, and it can also cause overheating and thus an increased risk of fire. A dryer should never be used without supervision or when you are sleeping. SO THINK FIRE HAZARD: for your own safety and the safety of others, it is important that you NEVER leave the dryer unattended when using it! We also use the washer and dryer, but we try not to use them when the room is rented. We also have our freezer box standing in the laundry room. If you have frozen goods, you can use it. (It should always be plugged in!!) There is otherwise a door between the host's kitchen and guests, which can give guests a complete privacy. The host keeps the door locked for guests to have privacy, and will let you know and knock if the host has to enter the rental part for some reason, which we are strongly trying to avoid when the room is rented out. So, basically, the rental area is completely private during your stay. COFFEE & TEA In the laundry room you can make yourself coffee and tea. There is a kettle, coffee maker, coffee and tea available there. There are also sockets for easy use of other electrical appliances. Sal house More about the place itself, the house and history. Only about 15 minutes from Bergen city center you will find Salhus, a small village close to the fjord. Salhus is a small charming village that once was a hub and a bustling trade and workspace with several factories and shops. And the village had most of what you needed in your everyday life. Workplace, shops, elementary school, doctor, post office and bank, and in more recent times even a cinema. There was a ferry to Bergen and inland along the entire fjord, and more recently there was a car ferry across the fjord to Frekhaug. Now there is a bridge over the fjord and the village no longer has a boat connection, and the work in the factories has stopped. So today Salhus is a quiet and peaceful place with many houses worth preserving, but the charm of the village is still preserved even though the factories have been closed and the stores have disappeared. In Salhus there is a museum that shows the factory work and way of life of the time. So if you first visit Salhus, the Textile Industry Museum is one of the things you should get with you. THE HOUSE Once the village had several factories and many workers. The factories built work homes and this house was one of them. The house is over 100 years old, but has preserved some of the old charm of the past, with facade and windows mirroring the original, yet if almost everything inside is renovated. So once this house was a dorm house that housed workers in from one of the now disused textile factories. It contained 11 dorm rooms and 7 kitchens. The house has been modernized several times and studios have been merged into apartments, so there are even many accommodation units in the house. When the house was built, it was common for many workers to live in small studios. They stayed under simple conditions with an outdoor toilet and without hot water. Bathroom did not exist. The factory owners let the workers pick up hot water in the factory, and it was considered luxury, but it was a piece to carry, so the water was probably not very hot anymore when they came home to the apartment with it. This house was the first house in Salhus to be built so modern that it had a flushable toilet. Correctly not in the house, but there were 4 flush toilets in a separate small outhouse on the side and between the houses. 2 toilets belonged to the neighboring house and 2 belonged to this house. The toilet house is now demolished, but it was just next to there as the entrance to the room now is. Guest access You will have a small private room with a 120 centimetre width bed and 198 centimeters length. So the bed is not a good fit for very long people. The room is small, but it is equipped with the most important things you need for accommodation. The host locks the room so that it is completely private during the stay, and it has a private entrance and a private small bathroom. Access to laundry room with various amenities such as microwave and mini fridge. Key box outside the door so you can come and go at all hours without disturbing anyone. Extra bed linen in the closet in the room. Extra mattress under the bed. Extra towels in the cabinet below the bathroom sink. Kitchen equipment for simple cooking in the cabinets in the laundry room. Cloths, dish soap and tea towels in the cabinet above the sink in the laundry room. When washing dishes, the drain shut-off lever is inside the cabinet under the sink. THE DRYER THINK FIRE HAZARD. A dryer should never be used unattended or when sleeping! If you use the dryer, it is important that the filter and water tank are emptied between EACH dry. Tight filter provides poorer drying, it can also cause overheating and increased fire hazard. So for your own safety and the safety of others, it's important that you NEVER leave the dryer unattended when using it! During your stay We try to be prepared for most things, but of course we can never be fully prepared. If something is missing, breaks, something happens or if there is something that you somehow need help with. So don't hesitate to get in touch and we'll try to find a solution. The phone number of the landlord can also be found in the room if there is an emergency. Other things to note KEY BOX We have lockbox for easy access 24/7. Private entrance so you don't disturb anyone. PARKING Our driveway is not the largest, but we will make room for your car in the driveway if you let us know in advance and your car is not too big. If you have a car and park in the driveway, make sure you don't park so you can block other cars inside. Otherwise, you can also park for free along the road. On weekends and at night, and otherwise outside of school hours, you can also park for free in the children's school parking lot located close to the neighboring house. FUSES Should the power go out and we are not at home, the fuse box is in the stairs in the main entrance of all the apartments. Then you enter the blue door on the down side of the house and up one flight of stairs. You will find the fuses in the cupboard on the wall there. There are automatic fuses, so if there is nothing wrong with any appliances, then they should just be pushed back up. The fuses can go if you use multiple appliances at the same time. Like a dryer, microwave and washing machine at the same time as the appliances have the same breakers. ADDITIONAL MATTRESS In addition to the bed of 120 centimeters width, there is a foldable mattress under the bed and extra bedding in the closet so that it is possible, yet if it becomes cramped, to also sleep on a mattress on the floor as well. You will not be charged extra for using the mattress or extra bedding.
