Thornton Castle - The Tower and The Blue Room

Traditional & relaxed B&B in: (a) the 16th century Scottish tower wing of our family home. 2 bedrooms for 4 people over two floors with large bathroom and small sitting room with tv. and (b) a twin room with en-suite bathroom (The Blue Room) for 2 in the main section of the Castle. For larger parties than 6, two further bedrooms may be available on the same corridor as The Blue Room. Full breakfast included. The space The castle dates from the 13th century and is full of original features but has been extensively improved for modern living! It is an excellent location for exploring the area or for business in Aberdeen or even a wedding at one of the excellent local venues. The property is about 45 minutes’ drive south of Aberdeen off the main A90. Edinburgh is 2 hours to the south. Royal Deeside is about 20 minutes away, across the Cairn O’Mount pass. The Tower Our main guest room is a bright room, overlooking parkland, on the second floor of the L-shaped tower built in 1531. It has a superking sized bed and there is plenty of storage with a wardrobe & chest of drawers. A cosy sitting room with TV is adjacent. Up a further flight of the impressive stone spiral stair is the bathroom and a further guest room, with twin beds. The bathroom, for exclusive use by guests, has a power shower and bath. There are tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge with ice box. White waffle weave robes can be used for the short walk between the bedrooms and bathroom. The Blue Room The Blue room is a bright room, overlooking parkland, on the first floor. It has a two extra wide single beds with hanging space. The ensuite bathroom has a large bath and hand held shower attachment. All linen, towels and basic toiletries will be provided. Duvets and pillows are feather/down, but synthetic may be available. A hairdryer is available, as well as an iron & ironing board. On the ground floor is a Billiard room with full sized billiard / snooker table and selection of board games which guests are welcome to use by separate arrangement. On inclement days or chilly evenings we would be happy to light a fire. A full breakfast is provided in our dining room, depending on requirements. A selection of cereals, fruit juices and yoghurt are all available, with home made bread and preserves. A simple cooked breakfast can be provided. Reasonable Wi-Fi is available throughout the house limited in places by the thickness of the walls! Guest access The space is not suited to the infirm or very young because of the spiral stair between floors. Guests will be free to use the large garden, croquet lawn and all weather tennis court by arrangement. The family live in the main section of the castle. During your stay We will be around to answer any questions. We are very happy to chat and share our local knowledge but the large spaces in our property afford the guests their own privacy. Other things to note We have two dogs which live outside, and a cat in our wing of the house. We also have chickens and ducks in the garden – there may well be fresh eggs for breakfast
