Beautiful, cosy, oak-framed house designed by Roderick James Architects set in a secluded, wooded position with spectacular views of the Sound of Mull. The space This beautiful family house was designed and owned by Roderick James, Architect, and his wife, Amanda Markham. It was the first of a series of oak framed 'evolution' houses which can be built with a central core, and extended as required. Guests who are thinking of building their own houses may be able to visit some of the other seven or eight houses designed by Roderick in the area. The ground floor is essentially open plan with two bedrooms (one en-suite) opening off the living area, and a twin bedroom (probably better for children) accessed from either outside, the rear double bedroom, or the shower room. A staircase rises from the living area to the new kingsize master bedroom and bathroom Roderick and Amanda work from a small house (Tigh na Mara) within the same 9 acres, but Tigh Darach is the house in which our extended family also stay when they visit us in Scotland. It faces due South looking down and across the Sound of Mull, with a breakfast veranda to the East and a cocktail veranda (!) to the West. There are normally a couple of roe deer living in the grounds, and the house is regularly visited by Pine Marten and Swallows. Seals and dolphins are often to be seen in the Sound with the occasional otter, eagles and other birds of prey. The house is well insulated, double glazed, and heated by a ground source heat pump with underfloor heating and solar photo-voltaic panels. There is also a mobile phone booster, but again this is as good as we can get and it's not perfect! O2 is best here, with Vodaphone a close second. Wifi is excellent and fast. Short Term Let Licence no HI-40681-F Guest access The house is only let in its entirety with 5 night minimum periods, and generally one week minimum stays over Christmas, New Year, Easter, the summer holidays and half term periods. There are seven acres of wooded grounds to explore plus easy access to the privately owned Drimnin Pier and shoreline. Other things to note Drive 15 minutes from Corran ferry towards Strontian, turning left well before you get there to Lochaline. Single track road to Lochaline. Turn right before you enter Lochaline to Drimnin. Drive 10 miles down this road to shoreline at the end, pass red telephone box, immediately turn right onto private track, Tigh Darach is second gate on right. Registration details HI-40681-F EPC. C
