The area The house is in Bergamasco, a village situated in the beautiful wine-growing area of Monferrato, at the beginning of the Belbo Valley, along the road that leads to the Langhe area (Alba- Barolo). The origins of Bergamasco date back before 1,000 A.D. After 1,000 A.D., for five centuries, it was part of the Marquessate of Incisa. Then it passed to the Paleologo family, the Marquesses of Monferrato, and then to the Gonzaga-Nevers family, the rulers of Mantua. In 1708 it became part of the Kingdom of Savoy. You will visit the old Castle if you like! Bergamasco village is at the edge of the UNESCO heritage landscape (“Paesaggi Vitivinicoli di Langhe – Roero e Monferrato”). It is the perfect place from which to explore the Monferrato and Langhe regions, with all of the food, wine and stunning landscapes that they bring. To help you see all this, we have a cycle available for you to borrow. The area is famous for its food, with truffles, agnolotti, taiaren and game dishes. The two nearest towns are Alessandria and Nizza Monferrato. Both have good shopping and many restaurants. Serravalle Mc Arthur Outlet is 40 minutes far. Nearby there are many cantine that make and sell wine. The area is famous for Barbera, Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Brachetto, Moscato, Roero Arneis and Cortese wines. You can taste before you buy! Also on the hill opposite The Berghouse is the village of Mombaruzzo, famous for its Amaretti biscuits and home to the world renowned Berta distillery, making some of the best grappa you will ever try. Throughout the year, all the surrounding villages have festivals celebrating their patron saints and other key dates. Bergamasco has three main celebrations which see people eating together in the street and celebrating in the village square. 25 July is the day for San Giacomo (Saint James), celebrated with bollito misto e bagnet (mixed boiled meats with sauces). In the first week of September we celebrate the harvest with a livestock fair and fritto misto di pesce (mixed fried fish). On the second Sunday in October there we have a Fiera del Tartufo (Truffle Festival), which is not to be missed, with a truffle market, music and folk songs, truffle-based food and local wine. Prizes are awarded for the biggest truffle, for truffle hunting with dogs and a painting contest. We live here all year round, but we think the best time to visit is from May to October, when the sun is shining. Torino, Milano, Genova, the mountains, the sea and lakes are very easy to reach from Bergamasco! Other things to note Fabio and Matteo will be happy to help you to discover the area and the amazing views on the hills by bike Registration Details IT006015C2RPP7OMCQ
