Description
Escape to Lares, the historic soul of Puerto Rico’s mountains. Famous for bold coffee, exotic ice cream, and the 1868 revolution, this town offers a true cultural reset. Our family retreat is nestled in a lush forest sanctuary—the perfect place to disconnect. Wake up to greenery, crisp air, and peace. From historic plaza strolls to quiet nights under the stars, experience the island’s authentic high-country charm- without being too remote. Your mountain escape starts here. The space A Private Forest Sanctuary in the Heart of Lares Experience the "other" Puerto Rico—where the air is crisp, the coffee is bold, and the greenery is so deep you can feel it. Our home in Lares offers a rare opportunity to retreat into the majestic Cordillera Central with a pretty easy mountain travel. The Best of Both Worlds: Easy Access, Total Privacy This property is special because it balances two things that rarely go together in the Puerto Rican mountains: accessibility and absolute seclusion. While many mountain retreats require navigating treacherous paths, our property pretty easy to reach. You’ll enjoy a smooth journey through the picturesque winding roads of Lares, but the true magic happens the moment you pass through our gates. The transition is instant. As the gate closes behind you, the sounds of the world fade away, replaced by the rustle of tropical leaves and the song of the coquí. You aren’t just staying at a house; you are stepping into a private, gated sanctuary that feels completely disconnected from the noise of modern life. You will love the space inside and out. Designed to bring the outdoors in, every window in this home acts as a living frame for the lush forest surrounding you. Start your day on the balcony with a cup of local Lares coffee as the mountain mist lifts to reveal layers of vibrant green. Explore the cool, shaded corners of the property or simply get lost in a book while the forest provides a natural soundtrack of peace. As the temperature drops to that perfect mountain "cool," gather the family to reconnect in a space where nature is the only neighbor. A Gateway to Lares Culture When you’re ready to venture out, you are minutes away from the historical heartbeat of Puerto Rico. Visit the famous Plaza de la Revolución to taste the legendary (and eccentric) flavors of the Heladería Lares. Access our guidebook as we have highlighted points of interest. Tour world-class coffee haciendas to see where the island’s best beans are grown. Immerse yourself in the traditions of an agricultural town that has guarded its history and hospitality for centuries. Reconnect with What Matters Whether you are seeking a creative spark, a family bonding experience, or a quiet place to breathe, this is your forest hideaway. It’s a place where you can be fully "offline" while knowing the town’s charm is just down the road. Come for the history, stay for the peace, and leave with a soul recharged by the mountains. Guest access You will have access to the entire property, except with the areas marked as "owners closet" Other things to note The property features natural walking trails across the land. Guests are welcome to explore them, at their own risk, as they are part of a natural, rural environment. We are adjacent to a local church. On Sunday mornings, you may hear hymns or music in the distance—many guests find this to be part of the authentic and peaceful rhythm of life in the countryside. Very occasionally, a passing vehicle with loud music may be heard. This is rare but possible in rural areas. This home is located in the countryside. While the property is professionally fumigated monthly, you may still encounter insects that are more resilient—or that naturally wander indoors from time to time. Wildlife is part of the experience here. You may see birds, small animals, or other wildlife in their natural habitat, especially along the trails and surrounding areas. We believe these elements are part of what makes staying in the heart of Lares a unique and genuine experience. Driving note: A car is recommended to move around comfortably. Cell signal: Cellular service may vary depending on the carrier. Nature sounds: Frogs, insects, and night sounds are normal and expected. Power: Short power interruptions can occur in rural areas. Guests understand and acknowledge that we do not have a power generator available. Water cistern available Weather: you can have a bright sun and suddenly a heavy rain. Enjoy the sounds of nature.
