As Gjestehuset 102 was once the “millionaires’ mansion” for the most experienced miners, the standard was always higher, with each room featuring its own washbasin. This tradition continues today, with added storage space and a desk if you need to work. Shared bathrooms and toilets are conveniently located in the corridors on both floors, and hairdryers are available at the reception. We're a small, friendly guesthouse in historic Nybyen, at the top of the Longyear Valley, about 2 km (a 20–25 min walk or short bus/taxi) from the centre of Longyearbyen. Built in 1946 for Longyearbyen's coal miners and run today by former miner Arne and a team who love this place, 102 is simple, spotless and full of character - not a luxury hotel, but a genuine 5-star welcome at the end of the world. Our 61 beds span single and twin/double rooms and cozy 4-person dorms, all with a washbasin, warm heating and shared bathrooms in the hallway. A generous breakfast (with fresh waffles!), bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. Relax in our two lounges with free tea, coffee and hot chocolate, cook in the guest kitchen, or step outside – we're right at the edge of the wilderness, one of the best dark spots in town to catch the northern lights. If you are checking in outside of our opening hours your key will be in an envelope with your name on it in the post box outside the front door. Your key opens the main door. Other things to note Gjestehuset 102 is a simple, cozy, and budget-friendly guesthouse with shared facilities. Bathrooms, kitchen, coffee room, and TV rooms are shared with other guests. We kindly ask everyone to keep the common areas clean and respect quiet hours so all guests can enjoy a comfortable stay. Please note that Svalbard has a unique Arctic environment, and weather conditions can change quickly. We recommend packing warm clothing and suitable footwear, even during summer.
