Enter the front door of the 1st apartment, drop your bags and hang your coats for the time being and let's explore! You are now standing in the living room with a comfortable couch and a Smart TV where you can lounge and hang out after a long day of work or sightseeing. The open well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for your own 5-star diner. Dishwasher, oven, microwave, induction stove, fridge, kitchen utensils it is all there and ready for you to use. With a large dining table, it is the perfect place to enjoy your homecooked diner. The bathroom has a large rainshower, double sink and a separate toilet down the hall. In both bedrooms there are 2 single box springs which you can slide together to create a double bed. One of the best things about wharf cellars the peace and quietness and the consistent temperature (there is floor heating so don't worry if you get cold). The 2nd apartment can be accessed through the connecting door in apartmnet 1 or through its own front door. If you are interested, here is some additional history about the old wharf cellars where the canal apartment is located in: These wharf cellars are unique in the world and on this scale, you can only find them in Utrecht. In the old days, supplies mostly came into Utrecht by water. But as you can see the wharves are here below the street level. The buildings along the canal were always higher than the water level. This was because of flooding risk. With the construction of water locks and windmills, the water could be better managed, and slowly, from the 12th century onwards, merchants first started building tunnels under their houses. The way it looks now, with lengthened cellars, dates mostly from the 17th century. Back in the day, there were no refrigerators like the ones we have today. And this lower place, under the city, out of the sun and close to the water, was really cool and therefore convenient for storing food in the middle of the city. Guest access You will have exclusive access to all two apartments, including two private bathrooms and and two fully equipped kitchens. Please feel at home and treat our belongings with respect. Other things to note - Always ensure the front door of the apartment is closed and locked when you leave, even if it's just for 5 minutes. - A freshly made bed with linen and towels will be waiting for you upon arrival. We welcome you to a clean and luxurious space! - If you would like weekly cleaning, including fresh linen and towels during your stay, this can be arranged. - Cameras are installed outside the apartment above the entrance, pointing at the front door, to monitor real occupancy and for emergency situations only.
