The public beach toward the south end of Stoco Lake is sometimes closed to swimming due to water safety concerns mainly due to shallow water, weeds, and it being home to many geese. My cottage is at the far north end of the lake, and the water along the rocky shore line is over 10 feet deep. There are far fewer weeds and fortunately no geese. My children and grandchildren love to swim in the lake. However, I encourage guests to take advantage of the lake and water activities (e.g., paddle board, kayaking, canoeing, pedal boat) based on personal comfort. I tested the water from my dock for cyanobacteria (toxins from blue-green algae) and it showed none (Aug 20, 2025). I will continue to test the water.
