Peaceful Setting in Mts.
I have had Appalachian Trail hikers stay, travel nurses, vacationers, people needing space for a night, and med students doing 3 month rotations at nearby hospitals. I have really enjoyed meeting my guests and some I am still in touch with. Thank you for considering my space! The house is two storied with the guest space upstairs - a good sized private room with a new queen bed, private bath with an old timey claw foot bath tub and shower. There is a small refrigerator for water, etc. upstairs as well. The room has a good sized closet, and there is a spare empty room for storage or office space. Linens, towels, soaps, etc. are provided. There is not a TV in the guest room, but there is one available downstairs..Direct TV and Netflix. WiFi is provided. The rest of the house downstairs is available as well - if you are staying a while, a fully equipped kitchen with gas range, room in the refrigerator and freezer, Keurig coffee maker, living room with TV, back deck with fire pit and gas grill, laundry facilities on premises, raised bed garden with greens, tomatoes, and herbs in season, front porch, free off street parking, large, peaceful, fenced yard - (I like to feed the birds). I live downstairs, am quiet and easy going and look forward to making your stay a comfortable one. The house is big enough so that you scarcely know someone else is around. I sometimes travel and work part time at a garden center March - October...but I can help when needed. If you are staying longer than a week, you are on your own for meals. Otherwise, breakfast items are available, and if I'm not working, I can provide a cooked breakfast Erwin is quaint, with some fun little shops, there is a nice hiking trail - the Linear Trail, there are tons of hiking trails in the area, including access to the AT. We are an hour to Asheville, NC, 20 minutes to Johnson City, ETSU, the VA, Johnson City Medical Center, close to Bristol, Abington, VA is an hour away. There are lots of great restaurants in Johnson City...I like White Duck Taco and Longhorn Steakhouse...a wide spectrum there! Burnsville, NC is about an hour away..there is a craft fair in August there. We are close to Jonesborough and the storytelling center (20 miles). and Erwin hosts the Apple Festival in October Erwin is located off of I26 - exit 40 or 37. There is no public transportation. Erwin is very bikeable. Erwin is a small town that closes early! It has a bunch of fast food restaurants and a fair Mexican restaurant nearby. If you are arriving later it would be a good thing to have dinner before. If you are arriving after 10:00 PM, please advise. There is a barbeque restaurant - the Hawg and Dawg in town, a movie theater, library, and lately, a few good food trucks. There is also a coffee shop on Main Street - Steel Rails. There is a brew pub that has just opened - Union Street Pub. Children are ok, just not small ones. The house is not set up for small children. Negotiable re: ages. I AM NOT SET UP TO ACCOMMODATE PETS...sorry.
