The Barn, Whittington Mill

A converted water mill in a quiet rural location with wonderful views. This unique property has a spacious living/dinning area with a high vaulted ceiling and large log burner. Within walking distance of Hadrian’s Wall, St. Oswalds Way and Great Whittington village (with pub). A short drive away are golf courses, market towns, amazing restaurants and a little further away are the beach, Northumberland National Park, Newcastle city centre and plenty more attractions. The space The Barn is only half an hour from central Newcastle but is located in an extremely rural position where you feel truly immersed in the countryside. It is self-contained with a private entrance and linked to the original house (where we live) by an internal locked door. The rooms are laid out over 3 floors. After entering through the front door you can leave your coats etc in the entrance room before going up stone steps into the open plan living/dinning room. This large room with a vaulted ceiling has a log burning stove at one end, comfortable sofas, television, dinning table and chairs and fantastic views. At the other end is a small, well equipped kitchen. From the living room you can either go up a flight of stairs to a twin bedroom with en-suite shower room or down stairs to the master bedroom with a vaulted ceiling, double bed, freestanding bath (in the bedroom) and the toilet and basin snuggly fitted in a washroom under the stairs. (Due to the number of stairs at the property it is not suitable for people with mobility issues or young children). The property does not have its own garden, but outside the front door is a table and chairs for you to enjoy a cup of coffee as the sun rises or a glass of wine as the sun sets. In the grass field beside the property is a table where you are welcome to enjoy the peace beside the stream. We have horses, dogs, cats (and sometimes chickens) at Whittington Mill and in the paddocks beside the property there are sheep grazing throughout the summer. (For this reason dogs are only permitted by special request and must be kept on leads at all times). A footpath (St Oswald’s Way) runs through the paddock beside the property. On this you can go north to Great Whittington or south to Hadrian’s Wall. Guest access Guests have parking outside the entrance door to The Barn (EV charger available) and their own key to come and go as they please. Although there is no garden there are two outside seating areas and access to miles of walking through the countryside directly from the property. There are stables at Whittington Mill and the guests can be introduced to the horses. (For the safety of the guests they are not allowed in the stables without prior arrangment or unaccompanied). Other things to note There are steps in the entrance to the property and up/down to both bedrooms. For this reason it is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties.
