It was build in the traditional method of the time using coral, sand and lime as the primary building the material. The doors are hand carved in the same renowned Zanzibar tradition. The home is divided into three distinct sections as it was originally a shop with three large doors for viewing the materials, a warehouse in the middle to stack supplies and the rear section was used for cooking, sleeping and washing. Often in these older homes, there used to be connecting passages to the adjacent homes going the entire length of the street. This allowed the residents to socialize with neighbors without needing to go to the main street. The residents of the street still recall when the street was paved, sidewalks and German drainage were functioning. For over 100 years, this street was the vibrant business district of the town. However, when the bus stand moved to the other side, most of the shops eventually closed. However, we still have two popular food street vendors selling local treats from their homes. Guest access You will have private access to the entire house, pool, full kitchen, full bathroom inside, full bathroom outside, porch and garden.
