Description
Birnie Cottage is a self catering property which has its own hedged, private garden, an open fire and woodland walks, and is situated on the A926, roughly half way between Kirriemuir in Angus, and Blairgowrie in Perthshire - an ideal location for touring both of these beautiful counties and beyond. Birnie is very pet friendly and your canine companions will stay free of charge. The cottage also has its own social media page to keep you up to date with what to do and where to eat locally. The space The kitchen is very well equipped and has an old fashioned theme, mindful of the original use as a gardener's cottage for nearby Birnie House (the home of the owner - willing, if available, to give advice about where to go and what to see in the area). When the cottage was totally overhauled, great care was taken to retain the original 1930s character. Apart from the cottage itself having a private garden, and its own resident red squirrels, you are welcome to walk in the woods attached to the house, where you may spot some red deer. Birnie House itself has its own private garden. Various games, books and dvds are available in the cottage and activities in the surrounding area abound, enough to satisfy any age of visitor. Dogs are very welcome here but, please, not on the beds or sofas. Guest access There is a U shaped driveway in and out of Birnie and you can park your car beside the cottage. The cottage garden is quite large and enclosed by a hedge. In order to maintain the garden for your enjoyment, and because the cottage is let throughout the growing season, our gardener may have to be there during your stay but we shall try to arrange this whilst you are having an away day. The larger garden in front of and behind the house is, of course, private but there is a path to the side which leads to a woodland walk and to a network of paths to explore. Permits are available for fishing on the River Isla (only a mile away) an excellent trout and grayling river. Below the River Ericht, the Isla acts as a corridor for salmon. We also have outhouses for equipment and a freezer for trout ... or salmon! Other things to note We have spaniels who live with us at Birnie and we also have regular visits from red squirrels and roe deer, as well as the garden and wood being home to many species of wild birds.
