Home is on a one-acre lake view lot across a low-traffic neighborhood street from Melton Hill Lake, a Tennessee Valley Authority managed lake. There is no public lake access at that location nor are there any safety barriers. A public park one mile away has boat launch area, fishing pier, picnic pavilion, and free parking. Cities of Oak Ridge, about 5 miles away, and Clinton, about 3 miles away, have lake access public parks. Oak Ridge has places to rent canoes and other water craft. Norris and Big Ridge State Parks about 15 miles away have boat rentals and public access areas. Children are welcome; however, we do not provide infant gear or small children safety devices, the lake across street presents a water hazard, and the yard is not fenced so children should not be left unattended outside (or ever). Home is accessible for some people with mobility disabilities, but not all. To enter the home, at least one guest must be capable of walking from the driveway to the front of the house and climbing two steps to open the home's front door where keybox is located. Once inside the home, the kitchen door opens to the garage which has a ramp between kitchen and garage floors for mobility/wheel chair (also makes it easier to wheel in suitcases). Kitchen door is 36" (about 34" opening). The main area of the home -- kitchen, living room, family room, bedrooms, and baths -- is single level. Master bedrooms and master bath door are 32 inches (about 30 inch opening). Queen and Twin bedrooms have 32 inch doors. Second bath has smaller door. Note photos throughout the home were taken by host using a mobility chair. Use the "contact host" link to discuss your handicap needs before booking if any concerns. CLEANING: We clean between but not during guest stays. Washer-dryer are available for guest use. For trash pickup, guess must bring trash to pickup area at host's home across street. When bagging kitchen and other trash, compress paper and plastics as much as possible to reduce volume and placed bagged trash in the covered can in garage. since the home is on a septic tank and not city sewer, we discourage use of garbage disposal. insteas, to avoid a "stinky" garbage can in garage, we encourage guests to feed cooking scraps and food waste to neighborhood critters (birds, rabbits, groundhogs) along driveway or backyard fence -- they appreciate the handouts and you might enjoy watching them and just about anyrhing editable is gone by morning. BOOKING: Query first (use contact host link). Ask questions about the property and tell us about the purpose of your trip and your group -- the number of people (adults and children), number of automobiles, etc. we are only accepting work groups. LAKE HAZARD WARNING: Melton Hill Lake, a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) managed lake, is across a public street from the home and is a water hazard in that there is no safe entry from that location. A public park, less than one mile, has boat launch area, fishing pier, and public parking. Oak Ridge and Clinton have public recreation areas including indoor and outdoor pools and lake access areas. By booking, guests accept full responsibility and all liability for any injury to themselves and anyone in their group on property or lake. TRAVEL WARNING: COVID-19. Consult public healthy advisories for each state you will be traveling to or through and locate emergency numbers for medical providers and hospitals in areas of travel should an illness or other emergency arise. By booking, guests accept full responsibility for keeping themselves and others safe from Covid or injury to themselves or anyone in their group during their stay at this property. Guest access Entire home, attached garage, driveway and front and back yards are for guest's use. Host retains use of the two detached garages on property and may need access during guest stay but will alert guest before accessing. Back patio between house and garage off limits due to unfished hotub plumbing construction. Other things to note HOUSE RULES: Quiet neighborhood so no parties. No smoking. no Pets. Children welcome but no "small children" safety device and unfenced yard, hence lake and street hazards. ABOUT THE HOUSE: It's a roomy, mid-1960s brick ranch with minor 1980s renovations and furnishing for kick-back comfort just like your grandparents' home. And, like your grandparent's house, it meeds updating and has a few quirks such as 2 and 3-way light swiches you have to flip until you get lucky and ceiling fans that require both wall switch and remote to work and 2 or three way switches (just be thankful there are no "clappers" or wi-fi controlled door locks or lights). the hot tub in porch photos IS NOT OPERATIONAL and slated for removal just as soon as we can figure out how to get it iut and moved to the patio between house and first detached garage where an unfished plumbing proget now exist. Consider your self warned not to exit door with "do not open" warnings. Also, as throught this area, our internet provider is Comcast Xfinity, so bring your own wi-fi hotspot if you want truly reliable internet.
