Casa Cadaval is located on the Northwest Atlantic coast of Spain in the region of Galicia in the province of O Coruña. The house is about 150 years old and sits in it own extensive plot of land. The house is in a very quiet and private spot on the outskirts of the village of Loiba. The beautiful and breathtaking Atlantic coastline is a short 200m walk The wildlife is equally as spectacular, wild boars, deer, falcons and even the Iberian wolf which was recently reintroduced. The space Welcome to our home and sanctuary far from the maddening crowd. Casa Cadaval is located on the Northwest Atlantic coast of Spain in the region of Galicia and sits within the province of O Coruña. The house itself is about 150 years old (so we’ve been told by locals) and sits in it own extensive plot of land. Recently we had the exterior stone renovated as well as making the interior as comfortable as possible. The house is located in a very quiet and private spot on the outskirts of the village of Loiba. The beautiful and breathtaking Atlantic coastline with its cliffs is but a short 150-meter walk from the front door. The wildlife, which you may encounter from time to time, is equally as spectacular, wild boars, deer, falcons and even the Iberian wolf which was recently reintroduced. As you step outside the front door you instantly feel a connection with the landscape, your view from the front door is a small woodland and from one side of the house is a view across the valley down into the Loiba itself. This particular part of the village is called Cadaval, where there are only 5 houses spread widely apart from each other, but only two of the houses (ours being one) are actually occupied, so you see, your isolation with nature is almost total. You just might be lucky enough to see the beautiful tanned coloured giant Owl that lives in our roof eaves emerge at sunset. On some nights you can hear her screech and scratch in the roof, but don’t be alarmed, we’ve welcomed her by keeping the eaves open as we feel blessed to have her. Step out of the front gate on to the unmade road, turn right and within 200 meters be prepared for the most spectacular views of the Atlantic ocean whether at dawn or dusk it never ceases to instil a feeling of awe. There are numerous walks you can take from here, along clifftops and paths that lead down to some of the many isolated beaches which I can guarantee that you’ll be the only people there. Turn left and take a 500 meter walk in to Loiba, there’s nothing much here other than a very useful village food shop that has lots of choice at normal supermarket prices. The main road is distantly located about 1km away , having to pass through the village. At the main road if you turn left, the first town you come to is beautiful O Barqueiro (see photos of small fishing boats and marina) where local fisherman bring in their catch of the day. There are three restaurants/bars here where you can enjoy not just traditional Galician recipes but generally good food and the views whilst you’re dining are just to kill for. Drive past o Barquiero and the next town you arrive at is O Vicedo. Not as picturesque as Barquiero but lots of Galician restaurants and best of all; our favourite beach “Xiloi” (see photos). Off season it’s a great place to walk along and to just sit and gaze over the ocean. In the summer, two local families set up kitchens and serve fantastic food. So a day at the beach here offers, easy access/parking, a shower and toilet/place to change, place to eat at lunchtime and a breathtaking beach. The wash up on to the beach is generally gentle so children wont be knocked over by strong waves. Move past O Vicedo and you will arrive at the biggest town in the area Viveiro (about 20km / 20 mins drive from the house) here you have basically everything, countless restaurants, bars, shops of all descriptions, very big supermarkets and most importantly of all (for us !) the “Mountain restaurant”. It’s a big town with a small feeling about it, you’ll understand once you’re there. The “Mountain restaurant” San Roque is a must must visit. The food is cooked over an open wood burning fire, here you can begin with seafood starters and move on to meats cooked over the wood fire. Now, you are very high up and if you venture to the beautiful small chapel at the edge of the grounds you can look down on to Viveiro and across the views of the Lugo mountains to your left and to your right across the bay of Viveiro and open Atlantic. If you turn right at the main road in Loiba then about 8km or ten minutes away you’ll arrive at Ortigueira a small and unassuming town, with a handful of restaurants and bars along with a few shops; very handy for last minute bits and pieces. Here you’ll find the nearest dentist, 24hr clinic/hospital and Police stn. The marina is pretty and with restaurants around it. But don’t worry, if you choose to stay at Casa Cadaval, both Melanie and I will personally speak with you and brief you in more detail about the house, the surrounding area and the many things to do and see. Weve tried to make the house as comfortable and convenient as possible for you and that’s why its perhaps a little more modern in the inside. There is a new modern shower room (and toilet) downstairs so that when you return from the beach you don’t take sand through the house and into the upstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with a coffee machine, cooker, air fryer, juicer, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and all the cutlery, plates etc. There is a table chairs and bench so you can breakfast together. The sitting room has new furniture for your comfort along with a beautiful handmade Chestnut wood coffee table (please look after it !!!) and a large solid dining table. There is a smart TV so you can login to your Netflix account along with a DVD player and about 300 DVDs. Upstairs there are two (2) double bed, bedrooms and one bedroom with two I(2) single beds. There is a large new bathroom with bath and shower. The entire house is central heated. There is a garage/storage area which doesn’t contain anything for your use. To the side of the house there is an outbuilding containing a washing machine and spin dryer for your use. Also located in here is the central heating boiler and oil tank. Guest access You will have access to all parts of the house EXCEPT the garage (there is nothing in there that is necessary to your stay) AND the cupboard under the stairs, this is private family storage. Thank you.
