Description
Kick back and relax in this calm, stylish space. Located close to the Goomburra Main Range National Park just two hours from the Brisbane CBD, our cottage on 100 acre farm offers the genuine country hideaway experience. This romantic couples retreat provides easy access to many Southern Downs and Granite Belt attractions, including the charming townships of Allora and Warwick and the unspoiled natural beauty of the Goomburra Valley. The space Enjoy an expansive view over the Goomburra Valley, watch smoke rise from the firepit and the sunset turn the skies pink. Cook outdoors, roast marshmallows and wonder at the millions of stars in the miky way. There are no city sounds, just the crackle of firewood, the chorus of bird calls and croak of frogs after rain. Sit on the verandah and soak up the serenity. This is where you can kick back and do nothing, or use as a base to explore the many local sights and events. Watch for the pretty faced wallaby, bounding hares, the odd goanna and even an echidna if you’re really lucky! Relax and look for a variety of bird life - from tiny native finches, to quails and rosellas and even a pair of local wedge tailed eagles. Hike up the road to discover the real story behind Ghost Gate Rd at ‘the Owl’. Or just laze away, reading that book you’ve promised yourself. When you're done with outdoors, retreat inside to our cosy newly renovated cottage. You will find everything you need in our kitchen - full size fridge, two hob electric cook top, air fryer, microwave, kettle, toaster and moka coffee pot. The luxury bathroom and toilet features an oversized walk-in shower. The living area features a super comfy 2 seat leather sofa. We have a smart TV for you to catch up on your favourite binge. Or spend quality time together over a board game. Phone reception is patchy, so detox from the pressures of the world and reconnect with each other and nature. Snuggle up in our comfy Queen size bed with quality linen. Remember to close the blinds if sleeping in is your priority. If cooking outside is your thing, chose from the open air fire-pit at the front (we’ll provide some firewood to get you started) or the covered outdoor kitchen with gas BBQ to the rear. If getting away means no cooking, then we can recommend the meals at the local pub in Allora (10 minutes drive). We have mains power for all your electronic needs, but are otherwise off grid. Our water is via our rain tank and is 100% natural, fully filtered and not otherwise treated. We happily drink it. If you prefer bottled water, please BYO. Rainwater is pumped by an electric pump located outside your cottage. You will hear it start when you turn on a tap or when you flush the toilet. All effluent is treated on site, so please remember the 3Ps when using the toilet and flush only toilet paper, poo and pee! Dispose of all other sanitary waste in the rubbish bin. The water in the outdoor taps comes from our bore. It is safe for gardens but best not consumed. Mobile phone service here is patchy at best, so use your time here to really switch off from the world. The cottage does have limited wifi and a smart tv if you really can't leave your streaming services behind. After a night or three nights of this, you'll feel like you've been away from city life for a week. Stay longer for a complete urban detox. We hope you enjoy that feeling of serenity and calm which we do living at Ghost Gate Cottage. Guest access You will need to provide us with your email address. This is for us to send you directions to the farm and how to access the cottage. Access is via a gravel road. After heavy wet weather can be an issue, please message us for directions. We recommend you consider travel insurance. Very rarely our road may be closed temporarily due to flooding, disrupting your travel plans. As this is a travel issue, rather an issue with our listing, we don’t offer refunds and are not always able to extend stays due to incoming bookings. We live onsite and are happy to respect our guests’ privacy or engage in conversation. You are welcome to explore our 100 acre property. Please respect our neighbours by not entering their properties. Other things to note Supplies - Please consider popping into a local shop for your supplies. Allora has a well-stocked IGA supermarket. The Allora Butchery specialises in locally produced HGP-free beef as well as other premium meats, as well as a range of delicious meals, ready to heat and eat, made fresh in their own kitchen. Farm gates – if you find it closed, be sure to leave it closed. This is very important as the cattle are curious and it’s not easy to herd them back in. Dogs – we love them but sorry, the cottage fence is not dog-proof so we're unable to host your furry friends. Wildlife - There is an abundance of wildlife surrounding Ghost Gate Cottage. Please do not approach, engage with or feed any wildlife. If you see a snake leave it alone. Snakes are generally shy and will not attack unless provoked, so it’s best to leave them be.
