It is only two minutes in the car to Amble, reputed to be ‘the friendliest port’, where boat trips can be taken from the still working harbour with a weekly Sunday market, great fish and chips, plenty of eateries, and an award-winning ice cream shop. There are several walking trails of special interest and a variety of wildlife to enjoy nearby. Alnwick, the ducal town famed for the castle used in the ’Harry Potter’ films, and enchanting water gardens, is only 20 minutes, with an abundance of shops and eateries and cobbled streets. A wonderful spot for walkers and cyclists. Within easy reach and worth a visit are Holy Island (accessible at low tide), with its fairytale castle, and Seahouses with boat trips to the Farne Islands.
