If you're looking for a laid-back [aka not fancy] getaway, this is it. The Midcentury Miller Cottage features 3bd, 1ba, and has the perfect blend of updates and original midcentury modern details that will make you swoon. Home feels private and faces a wooded dune. Beach and restaurants are a 9-min walk away. More restaurants, beaches and hiking are a short car drive away. Take time at Miller Cottage to unwind, reconnect and explore. Located in the 61st National Park, Indiana Dunes. Miller Cottage is perfect for 1 to 6 guests. The open living room/dining room boasts a great space for relaxing, playing card games and more. There's a smart TV for your Netflixing needs, too (just sign into your account). Each bedroom boasts queen size beds. Every room -- including the bedrooms -- have windows that open for a great beach cottage breeze. The kitchen and bathroom are updated and modern for comfort and convenience. All furniture and decor in the home have been thoughtfully curated to keep a midcentury vibe. We hope you love it just as much as we do! Our house manager also lives next door. Miller Cottage boasts a full kitchen, 3 bedrooms with queen size beds and an open concept living/dining room. We ask that guests don't visit the basement; this is simply storage and laundry for us and our house manager that lives next door. We prefer communication via Airbnb, but we are available in an emergency. Our contact information will be shared ahead of time. Our house manager also lives next door. Miller Beach is a neighborhood on the southernmost shore of Lake Michigan. First settled in 1851, Miller Beach was originally an independent town. However, the "Town of Miller" was eventually annexed by the then flourishing city of Gary in 1918. Miller Beach borders Lake Michigan to the north and is largely surrounded by protected lands, including the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Miller Beach is also the closest beach/resort community to Chicago. The Indiana Dunes National Park is part of the United States National Park system, and Miller itself has been described as "an island of integration and natural beauty." Don't miss the opportunity to use the South Shore Line train - it is a quick 40-minute trip to and from Chicago - for less than $10/person. Park at the Ogden Dunes Station. You can also drive 5 minutes and pay to park at Wells Beach in Miller Beach to enjoy more people and the concession stand that serves food, beer and wine. West Beach is also just 5 minutes away -- great for hiking. Other hiking spots and nearby areas like Beverly Shores and Michigan City are just a car ride away, too. Fun Facts Miller Beach's large lakefront park, Marquette Park, is a national landmark containing architecturally significant and historic structures, two bronze sculptures and the location of early experiments in aviation which predate the Wright Brothers flights. West Beach, just a 5-minute drive from Miller Cottage, boasts some of the best hiking and incredible views. The Indiana Dunes State Park, within the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, is also great -- hike to the Big Blowout when you're there. You can also visit the Century of Progress homes that landed in Beverly Shores after the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. The houses starred in the Homes of Tomorrow exhibit, where nearly 50 million people could gaze upon the future of residential architecture and the stunning home conveniences on the horizon. At the Fair’s end, developer Robert Bartlett saw the houses as a marketing opportunity. He bought and transported them by barge across the lake to Beverly Shores, a resort community he was developing on the Indiana shore.
