The 813-Historic Retreat

Forget your worries in this spacious and serene space in the heart of Keokuk. Only 20 minutes drive to Nauvoo Illinois for the annual Summer Pageant! Only a few blocks walk to Lost Canvas Coffee for pastries and boba, Joystix Rockade for arcade games and pizza, the local library, and triangle park! Beautiful scenery up on the Mississippi Bluff await you, and Eagle sightings in the winter! The space The 813 is an historic brick home built in 1890 by the Supervisor of the City of Keokuk. This is an ongoing restoration project, so expect whimsy and character, not modern perfection! Contact me for more details! This place is family friendly and has a lot of space. Specially curated, this home has been intentionally stocked with virtually everything you could need for your stay. This 2700 square foot home is full of old charm and features 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a spacious living area, formal dining room, back staircase, laundry room, office, deck, and garage all available for your enjoyment. The refrigerator works but needs to be replaced. Ice and water dispensers on the refrigerator were leaking so i disconnected them until the unit can be replaced. I can supply ice trays instead. *The carpeting in some of the bedrooms is not in the best shape. It is clean, but stained *Please do not use the front porch. You will enter from the back of the home through the garage, so using the front is unnecessary. *The whole home was recently insulated, which will increase the comfort of your stay. However, this process has left visible circles where holes were put in the walls to blow insulation. They are mudded and filled, but not pretty. Expect residual dust from this, that despite cleaning, keeps settling on surfaces and will take time to dissipate. *The woodwork on the door frame in bedroom 2 has been removed due to crumbling plaster behind and is not pretty. *UPDATE: the upstairs bathroom doorframe has been replaced and the door hung. The trim is not finished, so there are some ugly parts still exposed. *There is central air only in the downstairs. Bedroom 1 (master), bedroom 2 (double) and bedroom 4 (queen) have window units but this historic home cannot support more without blowing the circuit. There are a few fans in the home supplied for you. *Finally, many of the windows do not open or if they do, they do not stay open without support. *The 813 is a work in progress.
