Description

Here you are in the heart of a very small protected village, with charming stone houses, on the reliefs of unspoiled nature. For a short break, for a revitalizing vacation, for relaxing evenings if you are on a business trip (CNPE Bugey / PI Plaine de l'Ain 30 km/35 min away via the lovely Vallon road)... You will feel pampered in this former bugist barn, recently refurbished, and carefully decorated to give you optimal comfort on 130m2 The space ⚠️ Before going any further, a few words about its ATYPICAL CONFIGURATION THAT MIGHT NOT BE SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE, and especially, I'm sorry, for people with reduced mobility: two steps here, four others there, it's also what makes it charming, but... Also, the house only offers one real gated room. For the others, I decided to give priority to the volumes by partitioning as little as possible, even if it means giving up some of the independence of the beds. 'View of the fireplace from the pillows' vs' creating a well closed room '-> I opted for the opening. This choice may not be right for you… Also note that the sounds of impact or creaking from the upstairs parquet floor could disturb the most sensitive sleepers in the bedrooms below (two comments in this regard out of 23 groups received and asked about this point). Finally, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the cottage, although it has a capacity for 7 adults (+ a baby and a young child), has only one toilet and one bathroom (shower) (solar water heater with electric backup). What this gite offers: You will enter through a large laundry room, where you can store suitcases, bicycles, strollers, crooked shoes etc. New washer (10 kg) and dryer (9 kg) (2025). The toilet is also at this level. A few steps up, the large living room consists of a new equipped kitchen, a dining area, a first living room (whose sofa is a real 90x190 bed), and an office space. The bathroom is also on this floor (towels provided). Many games (board games, toys) and books are at your disposal. On the garden level, the three bedrooms and a second living room: An enclosed bedroom with a large glass window with garden views from the 160x200 bed (+ 50x100 crib) -> "Bedroom 1" in the photos. A bedroom open to the stairwell to the toilet: two single beds 90x190 and a toddler bed 60x140 -> "Bedroom 2" in the photos. A door allows these rooms 1 and 2 to be communicated, but can also be condemned. Three steps down, a second living room with a fireplace; and at the back, behind a partition with sliding panels, a 160x200 bed from which you can watch the flames dancing in the fireplace, leaving the partition partially open -> "Bedroom 3" in the photos. Summary of the 7 sleeping places (all real beds): - Bedroom 1 : 2 adult beds (double bed) + 1 baby - Bedroom 2 : 2 adult beds (separate beds) + 1 young child (3-4 years max?) - Bedroom 3 : 2 adult beds (double bed) - Upper living room: 1 adult bed (90x190 bed, which also serves as a sofa) Apart from the living room mattress, all the bedding (bed bases + mattresses) was purchased new in 2025, and is of a comfortable quality (Merino, made in France, pocketed springs, comfortable feel, firm support). Almost all the appliances were purchased new in 2025: Haier large-capacity washer and dryer, oven with air fryer and steam cooking functions, microwave with grill, kettle, toaster, raclette machine, waffle maker, DeLonghi espresso machine (combination grinder and ground coffee machine -> tank filled with coffee beans on your arrival; plan to refill after a few days, or use ground coffee). Basic grocery store in the kitchen (condiments, oil...) + rice/pasta for possible first night food emergencies (be sure to do your shopping before arriving, there is no business in Cleyzieu). To eat? A few meters from the cottage, a passionate Italian caterer (one in this case): Ilaria and its beautiful accent will delight you with its breakfasts, brunches, lunches, dinners... and even gourmet hiking baskets to fully enjoy our beautiful Bugey. Otherwise, markets, all shops, supermarkets in Saint Rambert-en-Bugey (12 min) and Ambérieu-en-Bugey (18 min). The kitchen of the cottage is very well equipped, you will find everything you need to cook and store (including freezer compartment). A Weber BBQ is available in the garden (utensils and charcoal next to the fireplace. Note: charcoal provided for about one or two ignitions). Depending on the season, the garden offers raspberries, blackcurrant, blackberries, currants, mirabelles, peaches and other rhubarb; as well as sage, thyme and rosemary to perfume your dishes. Parking: Private location for two cars in front of the house. If that were not enough, please park your vehicles only in the marked spaces in the village (some near the Place du Four, some near the church, and in the large parking lot of the Salle des Fêtes behind the town hall). Other things to note Read if you want to know more about the beautiful environment that awaits you here. This old stone barn and its charming garden (not enclosed) of 100 m2 are located on the edge of a quiet street and limited to 30 km/h (dead-end road that only serves the top of the village). A stone's throw away, the small square, the old oven and the fountain, of the very small, very quiet and beautifully preserved village of Cleyzieu. Cleyzieu, its few cows, and its 150 Cleyzolets have the privilege of nestling on the side of a sunny hillside of Bugey, on the borders of the southern Jura and the northern Alps, between Lyon and Geneva. A short hour is enough to connect Cleyzieu and the center of Lyon. However, once you have embarked on the hairpin turns of the Cleyzieu road (5 km from the Albarine valley, or 12 km on the Plaine de l'Ain side), the change of scenery is total. The basic promise is the soothing that this immersion in the heart of nature will give you, the feeling of freedom offered by the landscapes of (medium) mountain... But sports and cultural activities are not left out. Non-exhaustive list of fun things to do in our area: Staying in Cleyzieu: the village itself is very beautiful. Lovers of old stones and sobriety, you are in the right place: houses and barns typical of Bugey, some slate roofs, on the oven and the church in particular, listed as historical monuments. You will also encounter very old dry stone walls at random during your walks in the woods, as well as the famous "plant stones" on the outskirts of the village. Discover hiking and biking trails, beautiful panoramas, streams and washhouses to flush out in the hollow of discreet valleys (fresh water, very fresh, your varicose veins already thank you🙃). You may also have the chance, at random during your discreet walks, to come across the local fauna (chamois, deer, wild rabbit, hare, fox, wild boar, squirrel, badger, white-footed crayfish if you are very lucky...) Moreover, be careful on the road: deer, badgers, squirrels and other wild boars are sometimes reckless. By car, but without going very far (5 to 35 minutes for the following activities): fishing in the white waters of the Albarine, reputed to be rich in trout, grayling and minnows (5 km/3 miles), paragliding (first flights) with the Ailes du Bugey (5 km/3 miles), tree climbing, caving, waterfalls, via ferrata, canoeing down the Ain... And for less sweaty culture or rainy days, you can visit the Museum of Bugist Traditions in St Rambert, the Château des Allymes, the caves of La Balme, the medieval city of Pérouges, educational farms, the beautiful Abbey of Ambronay (renowned baroque music festival in October). At the end of June you can enjoy the excellent musical program of the Spring of Pérouges in the park with century-old trees of the Château de St Exupéry in St Maurice de Rémens. Cinema, bowling, laser tag, escape room within 20 minutes. Further away (45 minutes), the Villars-les-Dombes Bird Park is well worth a visit. Moreover, the Dombes, a territory with 1000 ponds, offers very different landscapes from the Bugey, the opportunity to vary the pleasures with our Dombist neighbors for a day. A little weather update: Between low and medium mountains, Cleyzieu (600 m altitude for the village, up to 950 m on the heights) often enjoys the sun when the plain and the valley are covered with fog. (Conversely, but much more rarely, the mischievous fog sometimes has the bad taste of clinging to our hillsides, too bad for my slight chauvinism😁). The south-facing orientation of the village offers a nice amount of sunshine! And the summer heat can even weigh down on our heights. But always have a good sweater in your suitcase, the coolness of the altitude could surprise you when the sun goes down. Note that the house with thick stone walls remains cool in summer (especially the downstairs living room). Otherwise, the coolness is always within reach of a walk in the forest, near a stream. (Bonus: we are here, for how long? still spared by the tiger mosquito) Snow: sometimes from the end of October, the famous rain-snow limit teases the 600 meters of altitude of the village, sometimes below, sometimes above. So yes, the sleds come out every year in the steep meadows of Cleyzieu, but certainly not throughout the winter. (And no, there are no ski lifts, but yes, it's a workout for the thighs! And yes, you will have sleds available at the gîte). Happiness when we sometimes get a white Christmas, maybe you will have this chance by staying with us... Note: we are in the Mountain Law zone -> snow tires (or chains/socks in your trunk) are mandatory from November 1st to March 31st; and sometimes very helpful to arrive serenely in Cleyzieu. But don't worry, the road is salted and cleared daily during snow/ice.
