The local area This is the "real Spain"--not a concrete jungle as you will find further afield along the coast. The Majority of the surrounding land is used for the production of Grapes,Olives,Avocados and Mangos. With the Villa being 450 metres above sea level, on the south facing side of a hill called el tinaou, on the outskirts of Los Romanes, above lake Vinuela, --the views to the Mediterranean sea and nearby towns of Velez- Malaga and Torre del Mar are incredible night or day. Velez Malaga-- is the capital of the region of the Axarquia on the "sun and avacado route" which runs for 75 kms along the coast. With a population of 77,000 inhabitants it is a vibrant Town and only 1 km from the coast. During the 800 year rule of the Moorish occupation, it was known as the fortress of Malaga-much of this still exists today. Torre del Mar is basically between Velez Malaga and the Mediterranean--again a vibrant Town with a population of 22,000, one of its main industries is tourism, every activity you would expect is here!! -but without the crime sometimes associated with some of the bigger tourist cities to the west.
