Located in the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver Island and the mainland, it offers visitors a rare opportunity to step away from modern conveniences and experience a slower, more intentional way of living. What Makes Lasqueti Special? Lasqueti is unlike most Gulf Islands—it has no public utilities, meaning no power grid, no water system, and no ferry service for cars. The island's small community of about 400 residents generates their own electricity, collects rainwater, and lives sustainably. This off-grid way of life attracts nature lovers, artists, and adventurers looking to experience something truly different. Things to Do on Lasqueti Island Explore Stunning Beaches – Enjoy peaceful, uncrowded shores perfect for swimming, beachcombing, and soaking in the coastal scenery. Hike and Bike – There are plenty of scenic trails through lush forests and along rocky shorelines, offering breathtaking views. Kayaking & Boating – Paddle through the calm waters around the island, exploring hidden coves and nearby islets. Wildlife Watching – Keep an eye out for eagles, seals, otters, and even orcas and humpbacks that occasionally pass by. Visit the Free Store – A unique community-run shop where everything is donated and free for the taking, reflecting the island's resourceful and generous spirit. Enjoy Local Arts & Culture – Lasqueti is home to a creative community, with occasional art shows, live music, and handmade crafts available. Shop for Unique Finds – Stop by Crystals & Chamomile Gift Shop for handmade jewelry, clothing, herbal remedies, and much more. Experience the Summer Farmers Market – Held on Saturdays from 10-1 in the summer months, this market offers fresh produce, homemade goods, and artisan crafts. Where to Eat & Grab Supplies While Lasqueti remains remote, visitors can now enjoy a few local businesses offering food, drinks, and essentials: Lasqueti Island Pub, Café & Hotel – A lively spot for a drink, meal, and socializing with locals. False Bay Provisions (Bakery & Café) – Fresh-baked bread, coffee, and delicious treats as well as basic pantry grocery items. Parsimony & Providence General Store – Offers household items, and other necessities. ATM – Located at the general store for cash withdrawals. Getting to Lasqueti Lasqueti is accessible only by passenger ferry from French Creek, near Parksville on Vancouver Island. The ferry ride takes about an hour and is a scenic journey in itself.
