Description

Cascade Cabin at Ripples Retreat — a handcrafted riverside hideaway on a Hobbit film location. Sleeps 6 with two private river pools, a double outdoor bath, outdoor showers, stargazing, fishing and space for families or couples. Just 3 hrs from Auckland, 2 hrs from Hobbiton and close to Waitomo Caves, it’s the perfect base to explore the North Island. Stay 4+ nights for a free farm tour. One of two private cabins, completely separate from each other, many guests extend their stays upon arrival The space This bespoke designer cabin features a stunning master bedroom with a king-size bed adorned with luxury linens, alongside a romantic fireplace. Upstairs in the loft, there are two additional double beds. We have dedicated ourselves to creating this beautiful riverside cabin so you can enjoy the ultimate countryside holiday in our picturesque area. Our limestone sheep and beef farm has been used multiple times as a filming location, including for the movie "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," thanks to the beauty of our surroundings and its convenient location near many North Island cities. Nestled on the banks of the tranquil Mangaotaki River, which is abundant with rainbow and brown trout, our guests are welcome to explore the farm's trails. We also provide an extensive list of activities that can be enjoyed from here. Many of our guests have returned and booked stays of up to two weeks because this is their ultimate New Zealand holiday. The cabin is romantic for couples yet spacious enough for families. And it's just beautiful! Guest access Guests have full access to the entire Cascade Cabin, along with its private garden, spacious lawn, and it's own private river pools — perfect for swimming, relaxing, or simply enjoying the view. A farm trek map is provided in your welcome book so you can explore the property at your own pace. For privacy, we ask that guests enjoy the river downstream from Cascade, as our second cabin, River Song, is located upstream. This way, both cabins remain peaceful and private for everyone. Ripples Retreat is set on our working farm, so you will see sheep, lambs, cows, wild turkeys, goats, birdlife and other animals during your stay — a real Kiwi countryside experience. The cabin has both indoor and outdoor showers, plus a double outdoor bath. We highly recommend bathing outside, in privacy, with amazing countryside views - especially good in the rain! Guests staying 4 nights or more are treated to a complimentary 1 hour farm tour, which many say is the highlight of their New Zealand trip. Trudy’s guest book on Airbnb and in the cabin, is chock-full of a 14-day travel itinerary, showcasing the very best of the Waitomo, Waikato, and surrounding regions. From cave adventures to Hobbiton and hidden local gems, it’s the ultimate guide to planning your North Island journey. Other things to note Please contact us if you have any questions, we are here to make sure you have the most memorable holiday ever!
