When the weather is nice, a steel wall pool with a diameter of 3.6 m and a water depth of about 1 m is available for cooling off and for the children to splash around. The location of the apartment offers the best conditions for hikes around Schmalkalden and of course through the beautiful Thuringian Forest – the green heart of Germany – with its famous Rennsteig. Whether in good weather on foot or by bike, in winter on skis or sledges – here you will find the right activities for every season. The nearby Rhön with its exciting high moors and great hiking trails with incomparable views also offers the best excursion options. The city center of Schmalkalden with its medieval-historical city center can be reached by car in 5 minutes, on foot in approx. 20 minutes. Particularly worth seeing are Wilhelmsburg Castle with great views over the old town, the old market with the town church "Sankt Georg" and the town hall as well as the many pretty half-timbered houses. Excursions to the surrounding area are also always worthwhile – for example, to the beautiful city of Eisenach with its famous Wartburg and the Bachhaus, to Oberhof, a well-known winter sports resort with a ski arena and biathlon stadium, or to the state capital Erfurt to the cathedral and the Krämerbrücke.
