Stay in a beautifully restored 19th-century artist’s cottage in the heart of Virginia wine country. Once used as the studio of renowned landscape painter Lucien Whiting Powell, this light-filled retreat pairs historic character with modern comfort. Spend the day exploring nearby wineries, and the charming towns of Bluemont, Purcellville and Middleburg. Then return to your private patio for dinner by the outdoor fireplace, s’mores and unforgettable sunsets over the gardens and distant mountains. The space The cottage sits along historic Snickersville Turnpike, surrounded by old stone walls, mature landscaping and views across our five-acre property. Large windows fill the cottage with natural light, a feature that once made it an ideal artist’s studio. The thoughtfully renovated interior includes: • One bedroom with a queen bed • Full kitchen with cookware, bakeware and coffee makers (no dishwasher) • Comfortable living room with a wood stove and TV • Updated full bathroom • Dedicated workspace and Wi-Fi • Private patio with café dining and outdoor fireplace • Dedicated parking beside the cottage The patio is reserved for your use and overlooks the gardens and distant mountains—an especially beautiful setting at sunset. Guest access Guests have private use of the entire cottage, its dedicated entrance and parking area, and the adjoining patio with outdoor fireplace. Self check-in is available through a lockbox. Please return the key to the lockbox at checkout; a $50 rekeying fee applies if it is lost or not returned. Our private residence is next door. You may occasionally see us coming and going, but we park out of sight and respect our guests’ privacy. Other things to note The cottage is located on historic Snickersville Turnpike. Modern insulation helps reduce road noise inside, though some passing traffic may be heard. We provide starter quantities of paper products, soaps and toiletries, along with bed linens and two sets of bath towels. Guests booking longer stays may need to replenish supplies. The full kitchen does not have a dishwasher. It includes a Keurig, Ninja drip coffee maker, air fryer, toaster, cookware, bakeware, dishes and flatware. You are welcome to enjoy the private outdoor fireplace and roast s’mores while watching the sunset. S’more skewers are provided—please leave them for future guests.
