Description

The Highland Shack in Miena is an idyllic getaway, offering a haven of warmth and rustic charm for a fishing trip, wilderness adventure, friends retreat, romantic getaway, work space, or stopover on your trip around Tasmania. Complimentary breakfast provisions to start you off when you arrive—cereal, UHT milk, bread, butter and jam/vegemite/marmalade, also coffee, tea, S&P, oil. Gaze out to the dreamy starry night sky. Spot the passing deer. Enjoy the lake view with dawn birdsong - relax! The space The shack is an open plan kitchen/lounge/living area with two separate bedrooms with barn doors, a separate toilet, separate bathroom and a roomy entry hall with cupboard. The main bedroom has a queen size bed, with the barn doors open, you have a lovely view of the lake whilst having a cuppa in bed. It is very cosy and warm in the shack, the fireplace burns on low through the night, or there is an electric wall heater for use also. The second bedroom has a double bed, electric blanket. There is ample space to hang bags and coats, and bench and table tops for placing your personal items on. The lounge area has a smart tv with free wifi, with all the streaming Apps available to you for private log in. The kitchen looks out to Swan Bay, and with ceiling to floor length windows along the western wall, the dining table is the best spot for a casual meal looking directly out onto passing deer, beautiful bush and rocks, and through the trees to glimpse the lake's ever changing colour and beauty. A small pantry is provided for use. Basic kitchen condiments are available. Complimentary coffee pods and tea and coffee bags are provided for your enjoyment on arrival. Provisions for scone baking are available, including locally produced raspberry jam. Blinds are installed all rooms except the toilet and bathroom. Games and books are stored in the chest of drawers and in the bookshelf nook in the entry foyer. The deck is a wonderful outdoor space overlooking the outdoor alfresco table and BBQ area, and onwards to the lake. A divine spot to relax. An old English lichen covered garden bench seat is the perfect spot for a curl up with a blanket and snooze in the sun on the back deck. Or sit in the wonderful bush stick crafted chair, and bespoke table, with a pre-dinner cheese platter and wine. Guest access Guests have full access to the shack, outdoor deck and barbeque seating area. Garage and workshop are for private access only. Other things to note In January, the average maximum temperature is 19.1 C, and the average minimum temperature is 5.5 C. For September the maximum temperature is 9.1C, with minimum -0.4C. Snowfall can occur even in summer, so driving to conditions is very important in this very cold part of Tasmania. Wildlife are often seen on the road at dawn and dusk, so extreme caution is needed when driving at these times. Registration details PERMIT DA 2025/10
