Description

Sleep in a magical 15th-century tower room in a shared apartment in Olten’s historic center, just a short walk from the train station, shops and restaurants. Once said to be where the witch Metzina Wächter conjured a storm to save Olten from invaders, the romantic tower room features original wooden beams, a reading nook, and cozy charm. Enjoy modern amenities, artful decor, and a peaceful backyard by the river. The space The shared apartment is located on the first floor of a historic 15th century building that once served as an orphanage and pauper home. Parts of the structure are even older, including sections of the original Roman and medieval city wall. It’s full of character, with wooden beams, thick stone walls, and small architectural surprises throughout — but with all the comfort of a modern home. The apartment was fully renovated in 2020 and features oak floors with floor heating, a modern bathroom with a shower, and a washer and dryer for your convenience. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, oven, dish washer, fridge, freezer, and everything you need to cook and enjoy a meal. We also provide coffee and tea to guests. Guests stay in the tower room — a cozy, almost circular space with original 15th-century wooden beams, a comfortable 160cm bed and a cozy reading nook overlooking the peaceful backyard and river. The tower in which the room is located once held women accused of witchcraft and legend says that in 1383, the witch Metzina Wächter conjured a storm to save Olten from invaders. I take care to add thoughtful details in the bedroom to make your stay feel special: fresh flowers, leafy green plants, and embroidered silk pillows in the cozy reading nook. The bed is dressed in soft Zara Home linens, with fluffy towels to match. You’ll find Swiss chocolates waiting on your bedside table and flickering battery-operated candles throughout the room for a warm, inviting glow. A discreet insect screen on the window keeps the breeze in and the bugs out, while a French tapestry adds character to the wall behind the bed. You’ll also have access to the shared areas of the apartment: – A comfortable and eclectic living room filled with books, art, a 4k 50-inch mini LED TV and unique thrifted finds – A modern, fully stocked kitchen with an inviting dining space – A sleek bathroom with a shower, washer, and dryer Guests also have access to the backyard by the river, where they can enjoy a coffee, a meal or a good book. The apartment is colorful and lived-in — a blend of historic charm and modern comfort. I love thrifting, so the space is filled with unique pieces found in local secondhand shops. Whether you’re here to explore the region or just unwind for a night or two, this home offers a unique and welcoming place to do so. Guest access Me and my partner live in the apartment, so we’ll be sharing the space during your stay. You’ll have your own private room in the historic tower, and access to the shared areas — the living room, kitchen, and bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped and you're welcome to use it to cook or enjoy a coffee or tea. The backyard is also shared with the six other (very nice) neighbors in the building — it’s a lovely spot to enjoy a quiet moment if the weather’s nice. It's accessed from the street behind the building. During your stay I’m always happy to give tips for your stay, share a conversation or even a meal if our paths cross — or to simply give you the space and privacy you need to enjoy your stay. Whatever your travel style, you’re very welcome here. Other things to note The apartment is located in the heart of Olten's historic old town. The central train station is just a 6-minute walk away, offering quick and easy access to major Swiss cities—reach Zurich, Bern, Basel, or Lucerne in just about 30 minutes by train. You'll find everything you need nearby: a large Coop supermarket just around the corner, Migros within 5 minutes on foot, and Aldi about 15 minutes away. There are also smaller grocery stores at the train station that stay open late and on Sundays. The neighborhood is lively and full of character, with plenty of cafés, restaurants, boutiques, and a few local museums to discover. The area is very quiet, as Olten’s old town has limited car access and is mostly pedestrian-only. For those arriving by car, paid public parking is available directly behind the building. In the warmer months, enjoy a refreshing dip at the nearby outdoor swimming pool, just a few meters from the apartment.
