Waterside retreat in the heart of Sussex

Situated on the banks of a beautiful fishing lake and on the edge of the ancient St Leonard's Forest, the Boathouse at Colgate is a tranquil retreat for anyone looking for a relaxing and restorative break. The building has been lovingly renovated retaining many original features such as wood roof beams and internal wall coupled with handmade furniture and kitchen. The space The Boathouse is situated on a working fishing lake so you may see an occasional fisherman across the water but otherwise you will be completely undisturbed. Furry friends are welcome and we have a warm outside tap for muddy paws. On the ground floor, the kitchen/diner and sofa area looks out to the sun deck and lake. There is plenty of storage, fast WiFi and a spacious downstairs cloakroom. Although there is no TV we supply a smart projector and screen which you can use with your streaming services. There is also telescope for looking at the stunning night sky. Upstairs you'll find the cosy attic bedroom with king size bed and ensuite shower and toilet. Although we accept babes in arms, please note that the bedroom is quite snug and unfortunately there isn't room for a travel cot. The Boathouse sits in its own private garden by the side of the lake. The decking area looks out over the water with plenty of birdlife to watch and is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or your sundowner and everything in between. The garden has dining furniture, a BBQ and a fire pit. Guest access Due to steep steps/stairs and a low bed and sofa, the property is unfortunately not suitable for people with reduced mobility. Other things to note Whitevane is a working fishing lake so we ask that you enjoy the peace and quiet and keep noise to a minimum during your stay. Unfortunately there is no access to walk around the lake or enter the forest from the property so please keep to the Boathouse and garden. There is only one other property on the lake but that is not occupied by the Boathouse owner so please contact Amanda by phone if you need anything during your stay.
