Retreats of Renown - Talbingo

An original Snowy workers' cabin moonlighting as a super stylish retreat with hunting and fishing lodge vibes. Think moody tones, pine and slate and cozy nooks to curl up in! Our full kitchen has everything you need for a short or long stay (from a Nespresso to start your day, to pinot glasses for by the fire at night), a spot on the deck to watch wildlife while you BBQ, plenty of room to park your boat and super fast Starlink wifi. We love our 'mountain house' and hope you do too. The space Our cabin is an original 1950s Snowy Scheme workers' cottage, relocated to Talbingo in the 1970s. The original bedrooms are small, however there's ample living space featuring hand laid slate floors, pine battened walls and a wood burner in the heart of the home thanks to a extension completed in the 1990s. In 2024-2025, we added our own touches, uncovering and polishing the cabin floorboards in the original living area, adding a modern bathroom / laundry and full kitchen, and restyling what our two-year-old daughter calls 'our mountain house'. We think our retreat is gorgeous, but she's certainly not perfect - given her age and history, she has plenty of character. If you're looking for 'new build, white wall perfection' - she's not for you! ;) Ideal for couples and small families, Retreats of Renown - Talbingo has plenty of parking, a deck overlooking a fenced backyard (perfect for wildlife spotting and talking to the resident parrots, cockies and peacocks), a BBQ and baby gates separating the living spaces and fire, along with books, board games and toys. We also have a smart TV in the lounge, a second TV with Chromecast in the master bedroom, and superfast Starlink if you need to stay connected to the outside world. Our fully stocked kitchen has everything you need for a short or long stay, from pinot glasses and champagne flutes, to serving ware and a full compliment of appliances, including a Nespresso machine, dishwasher, air fryer, vegetable steamer, oven and microwave. In our bathroom you'll also find a laundry nook, with a washer-drier, iron and board. Talbingo is a fantastic place to explore the Snowy Mountains from - we're close to Selwyn Snow Resort, Yarrangobilly Caves and Thermal Pool or water ski and fish on Talbingo Dam (we've been catching some good size browns and rainbows on our recent visits!). Talbingo also has a picturesque golf course (and great Chinese courtesy of Andy at the Country Club), and Tumut and Adelong offer great options for day trips. Coffee and essentials can both be purchased at the Talbingo Trading Post and Talbingo Caravan Park (and alcohol can be purchased from the Talbingo Country Club), but opening hours can vary, so please check in with these businesses directly.
