Stay Where Samurai Once Slept—With a View of Their Garden This warm, fully renovated kominka was once the guesthouse of samurai lords in the 1500s. Located near Hideyoshi’s “One-Night Castle,” it features rooms built 110–130 years ago and sacred artifacts dating back 280–350 years. Enjoy three unique rooms, a fragrant wooden bath, freshly cooked local breakfast, and optional cultural activities—like hina doll making and wild river fish dining. [Kashiwa-no-Ma] – For 1 Guest 1 tatami room with an alcove and private garden. Once a noble’s tea room, now a refined and quiet space. Features a top-tier Simmons electric bed, ideal for undisturbed sleep. (Located next to the host’s study/office.) [Oh-hiroma] – Futon Room 4-tatami bedrooms+ Japanese 280 old garden in both side. This guest rooms are actually used as a Wakihonjin Inn. for Samurai in the era. Pure Japanese style with only shoji screens—no glass—inviting you to reconnect with nature. Perfect for guests seeking a deep, traditional experience. ⸻ Bath Two traditional Japanese baths made from naturally dried hinoki cypress, handcrafted by a nationally honored master artisan. You can enjoy the incense. Farm-fresh sakura eggs, seasonal dishes, and rice cooked in a traditional iron pot await you. We place the set in your fridge the night before for a warm, self-served morning meal. ⸻ Bedding All futons are 100% cotton with down duvets. Kashiwa-no-Ma includes a Simmons electric bed, known for promoting deep, restful sleep. This inn is the closest lodging to Sunomata’s “One-Night Castle,” the legendary stronghold from which Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the first unifier of Japan, began his rise to power. Throughout the house, you’ll find auspicious symbols wishing for the success of your own journey—woven into the very architecture. The building itself preserves the enduring strength of a Japanese residence from a century ago. You will cook freshly steamed rice in a traditional hagama pot in the morning for a warm, nourishing start to your day. Self-service. ⸻ Lunch Our café on-site offers seasonal lunch dishes centered around steamed vegetable cuisine. Fresh handmade desserts like anmitsu and matcha tiramisu are also available. Closed on Thursdays and Fridays. ⸻ Dinner In line with the Albergo Diffuso concept (community-based hospitality), dinner is not served on-site. We are happy to recommend nearby Japanese, Western, or Chinese restaurants based on your preferences. Feel free to ask for details or assistance with reservations. With two weeks’ advance notice, a full-course wild ayu (sweetfish) dinner can be arranged (available May–October; inquire for off-season availability). ⸻ Please Note As this is a traditional farmhouse, small flying insects may be present.
