Graceful 100-year-old home in downtown Monroeville - Step back in time to the elegance and tranquility of a bygone era. This lovingly preserved home blends its original charm and architectural details with modern comforts to create a lovely retreat. Oversized bedrooms, 3 gathering areas, large front porch and outdoor patio, and a spacious kitchen provide opportunities for you to enjoy the company of others or find quiet solitude. The Magnolia House is perfect for enjoying Monroeville. The space The Magnolia House was built in 1915 and has been lovingly maintained for over 110 years. We ask our guests to treat the home and its contents with care and respect. Modern updates (tankless water heater, central heat & air, etc.) assure your comfort while original architectural updates are a reminder of the history of the home. (The Magnolia House is visited regularly by the owners between guest bookings.) PARENTS: The Magnolia House is NOT SUITABLE FOR TODDLERS AND YOUNGER CHILDREN. If your family includes an infant, you will need to bring a pack-n-play or similar portable crib as one is not provided. Children and teens under 18 are to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Damages to the home or its contents will be the financial responsibility of the renter of record. The Magnolia House is located on one of the oldest residential blocks in Monroeville. Our quiet neighborhood is home to many retirees. If you see a neighbor, say hello. Chances are that you will make a new friend! The shaded yard and large front porch are perfect for outdoor visiting or enjoying a breeze while you watch the squirrels and birds. Our home contains over 2,700 sq. ft. of living space, all on one level. The entrance to the house requires you to mount 5 wide brick steps (with handrail). You will enjoy the formal parlor/library which houses over 140 hardback volumes of various genres. We are proud of our growing collection of works by local, state and Southern authors. All of Harper Lee's works are on the shelf as well as selected works by Truman Capote, Mark Childress, Allison Moorer, Ricky Bragg, Winston Groom, Fannie Flagg, and Ace Atkins. Two full baths and 2 half baths provide comfort during your stay. One of the full baths features a walk-in shower with seat. Both full baths have grab bars and shower head + hand-held nozzles. The well-equipped kitchen allows you to cook meals to enjoy "at home," while the laundry room (supplies provided) provides peace of mind regarding your clothing during your stay. Large closets have plenty of hangers. Fleecy throws and extra pillows are on hand for your comfort. Does a recliner or rocker sound inviting? You will find both at TMH! Guest access The entire home is included in the rental with the exception of 2 locked closets. Ample parking is available on the driveway, though the garage is NOT included in the rental. Reliable internet service is available by using the code which is posted in the kitchen and on the Guest Information table. You are welcome to use your personal streaming services on the Roku TV's. Other things to note While you are in Monroeville, please visit some of our local restaurants. Our little town has more than its fair share of excellent eateries! Many are within walking distance and all are within a 5 minute drive. Be sure to visit the Monroe County Historic Museum. The centerpiece of the museum is the courtroom which became "the most famous courtroom in the world," when it was re-created for the movie, To Kill a Mockingbird. Monroeville is the hometown of Pulitzer prize winning author Harper Lee, and boyhood haunt of renowned writer Truman Capote. It is the inspiration of Maycomb, the fictional town of To Kill a Mockingbird. The museum contains excellent exhibits about both Ms. Lee and Mr. Capote, among other items of interest. Perhaps the most popular attraction is the annual live production of the 2-act play of To Kill a Mockingbird. The play is preformed on the grounds of and inside the Old Courthouse. Play season is every spring, generally during April and early May. Tickets usually sell out to the 16 +/- performances. You should contact the museum early to buy your tickets. Contact the Monroe County (Historic) Museum for more information. Many other attractions are minutes away or within an easy 2-hour drive: Alabama and Florida beaches, Mobile, Montgomery, Wind Creek Casino, Alabama River and its parks,. Monroeville boasts an excellent golf course (fees apply) and a lovely, hilly park complete with a small lake (no boating allowed) and picnic pavilion.
