Description
Relax with family and friends at our peaceful village house. The space Welcome to our historic house, originally a medieval hall house and now modernised to make a comfortable home. Sitting on the peaceful village green near the Motte and Bailey pub, the old castle and village church, our house is a minutes walk away from the Chiltern Hills, with an ancient path rising up from the village to glorious walks and stunning views. The village has 2 pubs, a tearoom, a Friday night pizza van and Jamaican take away food service, a shop, post office, tennis courts, 3 playgrounds and playing fields. The nearby market town of Hitchin (3 miles) has a plethora of independent shops, supermarkets, pubs, bars, restaurants and an Olympic size heated outdoor swimming pool in summer. The house has 4 double bedrooms, 1 is a twin bedroom with 2 single beds, 1 has a king size bed with an en-suite, and two bedrooms can be arranged as either one super king or two twin beds. There are two bathrooms upstairs (one an en-suite with a shower and the other a family bathroom with a bath - shower) and a toilet downstairs which also doubles as a clothes drying room. The kitchen has a dining table which seats 8, a large fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. There are two sitting rooms both with wood burning stoves. The main lounge sits 7-8 people and the medieval lounge sits 4-5. There is also a landscaped wrap around garden and off street driveway for 2-4 cars. Parking is also possible on the road. Car hire is available at nearby Stevenage which costs approx £200 for a small family car for 7 days, and they can deliver and collect your car to our house for £70. For guests without a car you can use the bus to get to our nearest railway station (Hitchin) with trains to central London (30 mins) and Cambridge (35 mins) as well as trains or coaches to all destinations in the UK, including Harry Potter World. Many people in the UK order their weekly food shopping online and have it delivered to their home so we recommend this as you can order from anywhere in the world and have your food shopping delivered to our house for your day of arrival. If you hire or can bring a car with you, Harry Potter World is a 40 min drive, Bath 2 hrs 40 mins, Oxford and the gateway to the Cotswolds are 1 hour 30 mins, Edinburgh (Scotland) 7 hours drive, Snowdonia National Park (Wales) 4 hours, the Lake District is 5 hours and the beautiful beaches of Essex and Suffolk are 1.5 - 2 hours. We recommend catching the train into London or Cambridge as traffic is congested in both, and if you have a car you can park in Hitchin’s large railway station car park for £10 a day or get the bus from the village and a taxi back home again. We also offer a discount for stays of 2-4 weeks please get in touch for details or if you have any questions. I host foreign language students and am passionate about our guests enjoying all the UK has to offer :)
