Other things to note The first "tourist" arrived in Montaretto around 1350, during the great black plague. He was a wealthy Milanese gentleman, a relative of the Visconti family. He was fascinated by the place and made his residence there. Until the early 1900s, the town walls bore the family's coat of arms: a snake devouring a Moor on three mountains. His descendants were notaries, merchants, and cartographers of the Republic (Matteo Vinzoni). In the historic center, you can still see the portals that open several meters above the ground because in ancient times the population lived at the top for fear of raids. The church dates back to around 1300 and was ransacked in 1560 by Turkish pirates who attacked Montaretto and Bonassola. In 1797, Montaretto was the administrative seat on which the towns of Bonassola and Framura depended. Around 1870, a descendant of that first tourist lived in this house together with her husband, who owned a railway construction company and had participated in the construction of the Sestri Levante - La Spezia line. During World War II, a family of displaced people was housed in the attic, where the bread oven and the kitchen area were located, while another was housed in a room below. Between 1943 and 1945, about 15 people lived in the house, three families. Registration Details IT011005C2J2XBPMQ7
