The space About this space The Cart Lodge is a unique and charming two-bedroom cottage, where history meets modern comfort. It offers a fantastic and functional base all-year round for families, couples or friends. It is close to the market town of Rayleigh, while further afield but also popular are Chelmsford, Leigh-on-Sea, and Southend-on-Sea. The space The Cart Lodge was originally a 'hovel and granary' and can be seen on maps dating back to the 1700s, though it is likely the frame pre-dates even this. The cottage is arranged over two floors. The main entrance is via a solid wooden stable-door, which leads to a small lobby, then a dining area, with wooden table and four chairs. There are also two comfortable wooden cantilever armchairs by two windows overlooking the pond, where you can watch the resident moorhens and visiting ducks! Off the dining room is a well-equipped kitchen with fridge, small freezer, dishwasher, microwave, electric oven/hob, as well as crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. There is also a washing machine available for your use. A counter separates the kitchen from the dining room, making cooking and entertaining more sociable! The dining area also leads to the spacious lounge, which has two large sofas and two armchairs. There is a quiet area with reading bureau/desk, with views to the pond, as well as a TV. The main bathroom is downstairs, with quadrant shower, toilet and sink, as well as a heated towel rail. Upstairs is accessed via a spacious twist staircase, leading to a small landing, with access to the upstairs toilet and two bedrooms. To the left is the front bedroom, which has a double bed, two bedside tables and lamps, a wardrobe, chest of drawers and mirror, and full-length mirror. A large window provides excellent views over the pond and surrounding countryside, all the way to Hullbridge and beyond the River Crouch to South Woodham Ferrers. To the right is the back bedroom, with two single beds, writing desk, chest of drawers and mirror, and a slimline wardrobe. Another large window gives parkland views over the grounds of Rawreth Hall and surrounding countryside. Also off the landing is a small bathroom with toilet, sink and mirror. The back garden is secluded and quiet, and a great space to use and enjoy. There is a patio set with four chairs to enjoy al fresco dining, against the backdrop of the large fenced pond. There is a BBQ for your use (charcoal not provided) - but please remember to use a safe distance from the house and furniture, and to leave it as you would wish to find it! There is parking for up to three vehicles at the front of the property. Entry and exit to the property are via electrically-operated black gates that are typically locked. (Details provided upon booking.) There is a train station in Rayleigh, with a direct line into London Liverpool Street taking less than 45 mins. The nearest supermarket is Asda, while there are local Chinese & Indian Takeaways, as well as a Fish & Chip shop all within a 3 minute drive.
