The Bird House Artist's Retreat

Looking for the perfectly quiet creative getaway? Enter The Bird House and ascend to The Raven’s Roost: a peaceful, tree-top retreat above a working artist’s studio. Ideal for solo stays, whether for one day or a month-long residency. You’ll have private accommodations and a personal studio space — a spacious bedroom and bath with views in all directions. While designed for one, rare exceptions for a second guest may be considered. Please message before booking. The space The Raven's Roost overlooks gorgeous rolling hills to the north, and "Martin's Mountain"; a true testament that you are in North West Ontario. There are lovely paths throughout the tall boreal forest that take you to meandering streams and marshes, teeming with wild flora, berries, fungus and wildlife. Right outside your door are paths, carefully carved into the fields so that you can have a leisurely stroll through the tall grasses, observing the busy bees, and the various flowers that fill the fields with colour. It's truly a beautiful experience. We often get northern lights here, and the view is spectacular! Guest access You will go up a flight of stairs and enter through the main wooden door. You will have access to the stairs that go directly up to The Raven's Roost on the second floor. When Rhonda is working in her studio, you will have an opportunity to hang out with her in her studio, if planned in advance. She teaches a lot of online and in person art classes. If you're lucky, you can join in on a workshop! There is also a gift shop on the main floor that is open by appointment or chance. Other things to note We do not allow cooking in The Raven's Roost as it is a shared space, including a gift shop and art gallery, and art studio. We do not want the whole space smelling like food. But, we do have a common room with a kitchenette just down the driveway in another building. You are free to use the microwave or stovetop if you'd prefer to have something heated. Also please note that we have two dogs and they love people. It is for this reason that we do not allow other dogs in the space. This of course, does not include service dogs, that are always welcome. Certification will need to be shared in that regard. If you have allergies or fears of dogs, this might not be the right spot for you, but they'd love to snuggle and hang out with you! ;) Please note, we do not allow hunting, firearms or hunting bows on the property. You are always welcome to shoot photos of nature when here, though!
