It was the home of the main curaca in pre-Hispanic times and the political-administrative center of the Inca expansion when Mayta Cápac was established. During the colony, Gonzalo Pizarro chose it as his permanent residence. In addition to direct membership in the province of the Collaguas, Coporaque's prominence was supported by its administrative, political and economic role as the most important center in the region. What to do? Visit the following places: Architectural sites: Coporque Religious Complex (1563). Archaeological sites: Quitaplaza, Tunsa, Huaynalama and Chopayo, the archaeological complex of Llactapampa or Maucacoporaque (former Coporaque) or San Antonio and Chisra, where you will find architectural evidence of the Collagua and Inca culture, mausoleums, chullpas, canals, reservoirs and terraces still in use. Visiting all this is certainly wonderful, but nothing compares to the experience of being with family, enjoying the local cuisine, being part of an agricultural or fishing day, knowing in depth how the looms and embroidery of the Colca are made, living and feeling the music, dance and legends of the town. As if that were not enough, you can also go horseback riding or cycling. There are several circuits in Coporaque and surrounding villages.
