A hidden gem in Friesland

The Werkmanshuisje is an idyllic, cozy, restored workers' house next to the striking mill De Zwaluw. Modern and cozy, furnished with every comfort. The cottage is perfect for 2 people who want to relax and explore Friesland. National Parks and cities such as Leeuwarden and Dokkum are nearby. The space Het Werkmanshuisje is a hidden gem in our backyard. In the past, the workers of the adjacent iconic windmill (the tallest in Friesland) lived here; nowadays, guests who are looking for adventure in Friesland stay here. The cottage is comfortably and warmly decorated, while retaining the character of an old Frisian workers' cottage. Het Werkmanshuisje is not about luxury or excess, but about tranquility, atmosphere and the feeling of really getting away for a while. On the lower floor of the cottage is the sitting area with a comfortable designer sofa and the spacious dining table overlooking the green garden with old fruit trees. The kitchen and the bathroom are also on the ground floor. The kitchen has a fridge, a microwave, an air fryer, an induction hob, a Nespresso coffee machine (small cups) and a kettle. Cooking utensils, dishes, cutlery and kitchen linens are provided. The bathroom is located (surprise!) behind the old box bed doors and has a shower and a sit-in tub. Towels are provided. The terrace has a canopy and offers plenty of privacy. From the terrace, you overlook the green garden with old fruit tree rows and the adjacent iconic grain and wood sawmill. In the garden, the chickens roam around quietly (in their own fenced area), which creates a lively and rural character. You can relax wonderfully on the spacious lounge sofa, and you can eat comfortably at the picnic table. On the upper floor, there is a double box spring bed with a topper (no seam in the middle). The bed is made upon arrival. Burdaard is an idyllic water village and is located on the Elfstedenroute. Especially in spring, autumn and summer, it is pleasantly busy on the Dokkumer Ee. The village has a cozy village store with delicious fresh bread daily and local delicacies such as dairy, vegetables and meat. It is within walking distance (along the water) from the cottage. There is deliberately no TV, so you can really relax and enjoy the surroundings. However, it does have excellent Wi-Fi (free of charge). Don't want to miss any programs and/or movies? Then bring your own laptop/iPad and easily log in to your Netflix/Videoland/NPO account, etc. Parking is available on the premises (free of charge). Your own bicycles can be parked on the private terrace (possibly under a shelter). Bicycles (including electric ones) can be rented from a local bicycle shop. This vacation home is located in the middle of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site, near the Wadden Sea. Go on an adventure through rugged nature, embrace the endless views, and experience the tranquility. Perfect place for long walks or bike rides through unspoiled nature areas, such as the Alde Feanen and the Lauwersmeer area. In the village, you can rent a sloop or SUP board and discover the Frisian landscape from the water. Visit the islands of Ameland or Schiermonnikoog, the historic city of Dokkum or the bustling Leeuwarden. Discover the beautiful surroundings by bike. Cultural or culinary excursions, a sporting challenge, or just relaxing in and around the cottage: everything is possible here. Be surprised by the local hospitality, the culinary delights and the unique charm of Friesland. Guest access The Werkmanshuisje has its own entrance and a private terrace with a canopy. The spacious garden with old fruit tree varieties may also be used by the guests. There is a (free) parking space for guests on the premises. Other things to note The municipality charges a tourist tax of €2 per person per night. This must be settled before or upon arrival by cash or transfer (separate request via Airbnb). Late check-out on Sunday is possible until 4:00 p.m. for €35 (to be arranged and paid for at the time of booking or, if necessary, on site, or via bank transfer through Airbnb).
