You will stay in a fishermen village. WCG is run by a Ghanaian and Italian couple. Our host compound is placed in between the lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. The natural environment will offer you peace and a unique experience. Close to Togo border. The space Far away from noisy beaches, crowded cities, obvious touristic attractions, you will get to see and feel something completely different. A part of Ghana – and a taste of Africa – which is not easy to discover tracking regular travel routes. We will offer you local and homemade food, Italian pasta, Italian coffee, a special pizza called “Pizza Brusca”, handmade ice-cream, nice music, an African library, a tourist guide to visit the surroundings and attend local traditional events, tailored trips and a few other surprises. In the Keta area it is possible to visit Fort Prinzenstein, the only fort in the eastern territory of the Volta Region. The fort, which was built by the Danish in 1784, has been consumed by the numerous sea storms. You can also visit Cape St Paul Lighthouse, the most ancient lighthouse of the country. The journey from Accra to Keta crosses the Lower Volta Bridge and can be made by tro-tro or private car: absolutely worthwhile! Once you get there you can visit Ghana’s largest lagoon: 40 km long and 8 km wide. The place is well-known by birdwatchers. Visitors can choose between going on a board trip to one of the lagoon’s wild isles, swimming in the Ocean or going shopping at the local market. You can also choose to visit the Wli falls, a top attraction in all Ghana. One special activity is to visit a traditional pottery site. There you can see how clay pottery is made. You can even learn how to do it yourself, classes can be organized on request if booked on time. Guest access The huts for the guests are built with local materials, a sustainable architecture to respect the environment in accordance with nature and with our spirit. No luxury: here simplicity is a life-style. The beds are made in bamboo. Toilets and showers are very close to the rooms. We have running water and electricity. But when the night comes we like to stare at the moon, sharing stories, playing drums or sitting around a bonfire at the beach. We always come up with new ideas to entertain our guests. We have built the rooms – and the entire compound – with our hands, sometimes with the help of our neighbors. The vicinity of the rooms makes it easy to make friends with the other guests, the atmosphere is very relaxed and familiar. It’s quite impossible not to feel at home. You can fall asleep to the sound of waves and wake up to the song of the muezzin. Other things to note We provide picking up service at the airport with added costs. While relaxing on white-sand beaches or waiting for your meal you can read a book on African literature and history from our little but well-selected library. We also sell traditional crafts. Pottery, beads, dye-stained adinkra cloth, batik, drums, traditional masks, wood carvings … and more. And, of course, Kente – which is hand-woven by Asante and Ewe people. Traditionally the weaving is done by men of both Ewe and Ashanti tribes. In our compound you can find - or you can order - the best examples of these crafts.
