Description
Take a break and unwind at this peaceful oasis with a large yard and panoramic view. We are a fishing family who leave for the fishing grounds in Kodiak during the summer. This is our family home, and a happy place where our boys have grown up and our two dogs roam. We’d like to share it with you. The space Our home is an efficient 1200 sq ft living space over two floors. Enter into a spacious entryway on the ground floor. Here you can leave your gear from your recent adventure and throw a load in the laundry. There is a half-bath next to the laundry room and bedroom 3 next to the bath. Go up the stairs to enter the open-concept living/dining/kitchen area, from which you'll have a panoramic view of Kachemak Bay and the mountains beyond. Most of the south wall is glass to optimize the view, and we like to keep the oversized sliding glass door open on nice days for an indoor/outdoor living feel. When not enjoying the view, you can turn on your favorite show with our 85-inch smart TV or pull out a game or puzzle to enjoy with your kids. The kitchen is fully equipped with the items we use in everyday life, including a double oven, Vitamix blender, KitchenAid mixer, Mr. Coffee drip coffee maker and grinder, Nespresso coffee maker, place settings for 12, wine glasses, food storage containers, and much of what you'll need for any baking or cooking endeavor. The dining table can extend to accommodate more than 6. The sliding glass doors open to an 8x22-foot balcony, where you can grill your day's catch on our large propane grill or relax in the two plush rocking chairs and enjoy the view. The main bedroom is off the living area. It is full of windows, so you can relax in bed and enjoy a view of the Spit, bay, and mountains. It has a split king bed, which can be separated if you'd like two twins instead. Enjoy the 64-inch smart TV while you lay in bed after an adventurous day. This room has a walk-in closet and a large chest of drawers. A ceiling fan can help keep you cool on a warm day, and blackout curtains help you sleep soundly despite the midnight sun. Bedroom 2 is off the kitchen area and next to the full bath. A sturdy twin-size bunkbed sleeps two. It, too, is full of windows to maximize the view. It can get warm on nice days since it is on the west end of the house, so we keep the window open and the fan on during those times. Blackout shades are paired with blackout curtains for a perfectly dark sleep. A chest of drawers and shelving with clothes hangers facilitate clothing storage. Bedroom 3 is downstairs next to the half bath. It has a queen bed and a clothes hanger. Blackout shades and blackout curtains do double duty to block out the sun. Our house sits on 12 acres, so you'll enjoy quiet and privacy. We have a very large yard in the front with a play structure for kids, a sandbox, and more swings off the deck. Our dogs and their friends love to race around the yard. Location: We are 7 miles out East End Road: A short walk to The Homer Golf Course; 10-min. drive to town, 15 minutes to Mariner Park Beach and the base of the Spit, 15 minutes to Bishops Beach; one mile from the end of a paved bike path that will take you into town; 15 minutes from Eveline State Park further out east. Pets: Our home has always welcomed furry friends, and we enjoy life with our two hypoallergenic dogs. Our yard is a favorite place to romp, and we welcome your furry family member to join. We can provide supplies to make their stay more comfortable, such as a dog bed, a few toys, a dog run for the yard, and a large wire kennel if you plan to leave them at home while you check out the town. There is a garden hose near the front door for after the beach or a muddy romp, and a couple of dog towels to dry them off. Out of respect for our dear neighbors, and to maintain the privilege of welcoming dogs, we ask that you keep your pets on leash when not in our front yard or driveway. And please pick up after them. Young children: We have raised our boys in this home and have loved the freedom and space it provides—especially outdoors. If you are bringing young children, we have a pack-n-play and high chair to make things easier for you. That said, there are two long flights of stairs (one inside and one outside that descends from the balcony) that both end on concrete. The balcony does have a gate to close off the stairs. Our two active boys did just fine getting through their early years here, but I want to share any potential concerns that could make your stay less than relaxing. Guest access You will have access to the 1200 sqft apartment attached to a large shop that we use for our fishing operation. The shop will be closed and not in use during your stay except when our co-host comes to check the water supply, mow the lawn, and water the flowers.
