Description

If you’re after a comfy lake escape to light a fire, catch a trout, and take things slow, this is it. Our two-storey cabin at Bradys Lake blends traditional Tasmanian shack charm with the comforts of home. • Private path to the lake – fish, picnic or take a dip • Large fenced backyard with fire pit – roast marshmallows or relax while the kids roam • Satellite NBN and Netflix • Shed for boat, kayak, or gear • Extra fridge, freezer, and washer/dryer • Possible snow in winter – a magical bonus! The space 🏡 About the House Just steps from the water's edge, this traditional Tasmanian shack has been lovingly renovated into a cosy lakeside retreat. • Fireplace in the living room • Private path to the lake • Covered deck with lake views • Fully equipped kitchen with gas stove, microwave and fridge/freezer • Additional fridge and freezer in the laundry – for longer stays or larger groups • Washing machine and dryer • Ample parking 🌟 Relax and Recharge • UltraHD TV over the fireplace with Netflix • Wi-Fi and satellite NBN • Small desk in the upstairs bedroom • Books, games, badminton • Large fenced backyard with outdoor fire pit • Shed for storing your (small) boat, kayak or fishing gear 🛌 Sleeping Quarters The home sleeps six across three well-separated bedrooms – great for families or small groups. • Upstairs: one bedroom with a king bed and small workspace • Downstairs: one queen bedroom, one twin bedroom (two single beds) • Convection heaters in all bedrooms • Two bathrooms: shower-only upstairs; shower-over-bathtub downstairs 📍 About Bradys Lake Bradys Lake is a quiet Tasmanian shack community beloved for its natural beauty and calm pace. • Location: A scenic 2-hour drive from Hobart or Launceston, and just 30 minutes from Lake St Clair or 20 minutes from Derwent Bridge • Fishing: Part of the Bradys Chain of Lakes, Bradys Lake and the neighbouring Bronte Lagoon are celebrated for their excellent trout fishing (brown and rainbow trout) • Canoeing and kayaking: 5-min drive to an internationally recognised whitewater slalom course—favourite among paddling enthusiasts • Walks: Centrally located between iconic walks like the Overland Track, Frenchman’s Cap and Walls of Jerusalem • Geographic Centre: Just minutes away, the Surveyors Monument marks the official geographic centre of Tasmania — a fun photo op and unique local landmark • Wildlife: Watch out for wallabies, wombats, pademelons, possums and Tasmanian eagles 🧺 Essentials Provided We’ve got you covered with the basics so you can pack light and relax. • Fresh bedding and towels, extra blankets • Basic toiletries • Tea, coffee and basic cooking supplies (oil, salt) • First aid kit • Firewood starter kit for short stays (firewood, firelighters, matches – bring more for longer stays) • Basic cleaning products, for spills and quick tidy-ups during your stay • Slippers provided to help care for indoor carpeted areas ⚠️ Important Notes **Water** The house is supplied by lake water, which naturally contains tannins—organic compounds that give the water a slight brownish tint. Tannins are common in many Tasmanian freshwater systems and do not affect the water’s suitability for cooking, washing dishes or taking showers. However, we recommend boiling or bringing bottled water for drinking due to the flavour. A limited supply of bottled water is provided, but for large groups or longer stays, we suggest bringing extra drinking water. **Planning Your Essentials** Bradys Lake is a relatively remote area, with limited places to stock up, and stores may have restricted hours—especially around public holidays. Planning ahead is essential to ensure you have everything you need. **Groceries & Snacks** • For a full selection, stock up at supermarkets like Coles or Woolworths near Hobart or Launceston before heading to Bradys Lake • Further along the route, options include the well-stocked IGA in Ouse (if coming from Hobart) or the Great Lake General Store in Miena (if coming from Launceston)—just be sure to check their opening hours • Once you're at Bradys Lake, the Bronte Park General Store (just a 15-minute drive away) carries basic items as well as ready-to-eat hot takeaway roadhouse meals, but it’s best to plan ahead for any specific needs. **Fuel** There are a few fuel stops in the area, but some only offer diesel—so it’s a good idea to check fuel availability along your route. 🍽️ Eating Out When dining out in remote areas like the Central Highlands, it’s advisable to check operating hours in advance. Here are some nearby options (with approximate drive times): • Bronte Park General Store (15 min) – Simple café-style meals and takeaways • Tarraleah Estate (15 min) – Bistro meals in a historic estate setting • Derwent Bridge Wilderness Hotel (25 min) – Pub-style comfort food • Hungry Wombat Café (Derwent Bridge) (25 min) – Casual breakfasts, burgers and great coffee • Lake St Clair Lodge Restaurant (30 min) – Seasonal, organic meals with lake views • Great Lake Hotel (Miena) (35 min) – Hearty pub meals popular with travellers and fishers 🐾 Respect for the Community Bradys Lake is a peaceful and close-knit spot, loved for its quiet charm. During your stay, we ask that you help keep it that way—by being mindful of noise, caring for the land, and giving local wildlife plenty of space. Guest access ✅ Guest Access • You’re welcome to use all bedrooms, living areas, kitchen, bathroom, laundry and outdoor spaces. • The garage can be used, but please note it needs to be opened and closed from the inside. • The second shed from the road is usually empty and available to store a small boat, kayak, or other gear. ⚠️PLEASE NOTE: The garage and sheds contain unsecured items and haven’t been set up for children’s safety. Please supervise little ones closely and keep those areas off-limits for play. 🚫 Restricted Areas • The two locked cupboards—one near the downstairs bathroom and one in the laundry—which are used for housekeeping supplies. • The small storage room located upstairs (marked with a 'No Entry' sticker. This is where we keep some of our belongings. Thanks for respecting these private areas.
