Welcome to Nemasu Eco-lodge, located on the beach less than an hour from the international airport in The Gambia but, a world away from the stress of your everyday life. In these pages, you'll find just a small glimpse of what it is we have to offer, and what we're trying to achieve. We are often told that our web site doesn't do the location justice. Nemasu is located near the small village of Madina Salaam ("The Village of Peace" in Arabic), between Gunjur & Kartong, only 45 minutes from the airport, on the beautiful southern coast of The Gambia. "Nemasu", in the native Mandinka language, means "Sacred Place". It was a name that was developed by the local Gambians to describe this special place. Nowhere in Gambia will you feel more relaxed, nurtured and inspired. From the world class beach, to our super comfortable beds, to the fresh local fish and vegetables in our restaurant, you can't pick a better place to unwind, explore and become familiar with African culture and lifestyle. Our eco-lodge is simple, elegant, and comfortable; right on the beach, and surrounded by forest. We're the only eco-lodge in Gambia that is right on the beach- you can see the ocean from almost any point in our lodge, and sleep to the sound of the waves. We are committed to building a home for guests that is happy, healthy and nurturing. Our staff are all local, and trained to deliver Western quality services, but maintaining the African friendliness and hospitality that makes Gambia special We run several community projects, including a sea turtle protection program in the summer; an education program that pays for local children to go to school, and we are organizing a program to support a 'womens farm'- a way for women to become independent, and earn money through sustainable agriculture.
