The Retreat in Blunsdon

Escape to the Retreat. Our elegant Georgian grade 2 listed house just south of the Cotswolds Lakes offers space to relax, reconnect and explore. Days are spent exploring the nearby lakes, visiting Cirencester markets or walking around the Cotswolds. Or stay home and enjoy cooking up a feast, playing board games or exploring the one-acre garden with outside terrace, veg patches and small orchard. It's our second home so fully equipped and ready for guests 🤗 The space The Retreat is a Georgian house built in the 1700s, with a Victorian extension and an old coach house for outbuildings. The house is in the heart of the village of Blunsdon, that has a community run shop and we are next door to the Heart in Hand pub with popular sunday roasts. Short 5 mins drive to Sainsburys local and 10 mins drive to a huge ASDA. We didn't give it the name The Retreat, it has been called that for most of it history - which you can read about if you wish, we have put it an article about it available to read in the downstairs toilet while you take a seat. Original features still there: * internal bells for the servants - the front the back door still work and wiggles * serving hatch into the dining room from the kitchen * 100 year old grape vine in the conservatory - which still produces grapes each year * lovely big sash windows with shutters and tall ceilings * old style pantry in the kitchen * two fireplaces with wood in the old stables Where we have brought it into 21st Century: * We have aimed for our decor to be in keeping but also modern - all painted in the last couple of years * Sonos speakers in most rooms * New kitchen and Miele appliances * New heating system with thermostats in each room * New terrace in the garden with sofa, loungers, BBQ and pizza oven. Ground Floor Room Summary: Dining Room - with space for 6 for either eating or board games. New stove in the fireplace Den - 4 person sofa and two armchairs to collapse and watch some TV. All hooked up to an Apple TV Kitchen - with all new Miele appliances and induction hob. There is also a fully stocked pantry for basics and we offer an honesty box policy. In the kitchen is a breakfast bar for up to 4 people if you don't want to use the dining room. Oven, Combi Microwave Oven, Steam Oven, Washing Drawer. Utility - large utility which has dishwasher, washing machine, large drinks fridge, loads of worktop appliances and airing / iron. Conservatory - has the grape vine in there and nice to sit in for the summer but warning it does leak when it rains until we renovate it in 2026 Downstairs toilet - WC with sink First Floor Summary Guest Bedroom - king sized double, hanging space and desk for working Study Bedroom - standard double, hanging space and desk for working Family Bathroom - with newly installed walk in shower and roll top bath and sink Our Bedroom - not part of the rooms you see in the photos and locked Upstairs Toilet - WC with sink Sitting Room - large room with two 3 people sofas across from each other and two lovely seats for curling up and socialising. It also has an old victoria open fireplace you can use. Additionally behind one of the sofas you can turn on a projector and use as a home cinema with Dolby Atmos 2nd Floor Summary (old servants quarters) Twin Bedroom - this is smaller than the other room and in the eaves of the house but still space for twin single beds, desk and hanging space for clothes. From this room you get the best view from the property over the Cotswolds Lakes area. Guest access What we do lock up: Our Bedroom on the first floor, the other bedroom on the second floor (not yet decorated) and part of the outhouse and garden storage. Other things to note Our only rules that may not be common is no outside shoes or red wine upstairs or in the Den (cream carpets)
